Redskins Players Reflect On Season, Fans

Sunday’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Wild Card round of the playoffs was a tough pill to swallow for the Washington Redskins players.

But after the game, many of their thoughts immediately turned to the Redskins fans and their support throughout the magical 2012 season — one in which Washington, once at 3-6, won seven-straight games to claim its first NFC East championship since 1999.

Many players took to Twitter to reflect on the season, the fans and the future of the team, including:

Linebacker/athlete/special teams ace Lorenzo Alexander:

Redskins Celebrate Goal No. 1 On Twitter

The Washington Redskins’ Goal No. 1 is accomplished.

The team claimed its first NFC East title late since 1999 Sunday night with its 28-18 win over the Dallas Cowboys. When they got back into their locker room, they found their NFC East Division Champions hats waiting for them.

But, as head coach Mike Shanahan has reiterated the past few weeks, only one team is happy at the end of the season. A divisional title off the heels of seven straight wins is nice, but it won’t mean anything if it doesn’t translate into a Super Bowl ring at season’s end.

For early this morning and into the day, however, the Redskins can celebrate their victory over the Cowboys. Then it’s on to the Seattle Seahawks, the Redskins’ opponent in Sunday’s playoff matchup at FedExField.

Here’s a collection of the Redskins players celebrating Sunday night’s win via Twitter:

Help Kai Forbath, Win His Kicking Cleat

Posted by Andrew Walker on December 14, 2012 – 12:15 pm

Kai's Kicks (@KaiForbath)

Kai Forbath needs your help.

The Washington Redskins kicker is trying to eclipse 15,000 Twitter followers, and he’s willing to reward a lucky fan for their troubles.

Forbath said he will sign and send the first cleat he ever used with the Redskins this season (see photo above) to the first person to correctly answer a trivia question once he reaches the 15,000-follower plateau.

The first-year kicker has a way to go — he’s currently around 8,500 followers — but I’m willing to bet that, with continued success on the field, Forbath will see that number increase as quickly as he’s hoping.

Redskins React To Win On Twitter

In case you haven’t heard by now, the Washington Redskins today extended their winning streak to four games with a 31-28, overtime victory over the Baltimore Ravens at FedExField.

The Redskins (7-6) made a furious comeback with little time remaining in the fourth quarter to tie the game. Down eight and with starting quarterback Robert Griffin III on the sidelines nursing a knee injury, backup quarterback Kirk Cousins came in and threw a touchdown to wide receiver Pierre Garcon to get within two points.

The ensuing two-point conversion — a run on a quarterback draw by Cousins — was also good, and the game was tied to force overtime. After the Washington defense forced the Baltimore offense off the field on its opening possession, cornerback Richard Crawford took the ensuing punt inside the Baltimore 30-yard line. From there, kicker Kai Forbath continued his perfect season and nailed the game-winning kick.

Here’s how several players reacted to the win on Twitter tonight:

Redskins Players React To Win On Twitter

Wow, what a game.

The Redskins extended their winning streak to three games late last night with their 17-16 win over the NFC East-leading New York Giants to pull within a game of the division lead with four games still left to play.

The story of the game, to me, was the Redskins’ defensive adjustments in the second half. After allowing the Giants to convert 8-of-10 third-down conversions in the first half — as well as hold the ball for more than 20 of the game’s first 30 minutes — the Washington defense stood strong in the second half, allowing just one-of-five on third down the rest of the way and dramatically cutting into that New York time of possession.

Anyway, as usual, the Redskins players flocked to Twitter to show their excitement and their gratitude to the fans after last night’s big victory.

Redskins-Cowboys Steals Twitter Spotlight

Twitter has made it official: the Redskins this past week were king of the NFL social media world.

Twitter announced today that last Thursday’s Redskins-Cowboys matchup was the “most buzzed-about” game of the week, while Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III was the league’s most-tweeted about player.

Neither are very surprising, especially considering we whooped up on the Cowboys in our Thanksgiving Day Social Media Showdown.

But, in case you missed them, here were some of the best tweets from the Redskins players after that Dallas game, which the Redskins won, 38-31:

The Washington Redskins have arrived at the massive Cowboys Stadium for today’s Thanksgiving Day matchup with the Dallas Cowboys.

The Redskins players seemed amped and ready to go this morning at the hotel and on the team bus as it unloaded into the locker room. With a holiday matchup on national TV with tons riding on the game, you can certainly see why.

Redskins Players React To Win On Twitter

The Washington Redskins defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 31-6 today in front of an energetic FedExField crowd.

It was perhaps the first time all season the Redskins (4-6) have put together a solid all-around game for four quarters from its offense, defense and special teams.

The satisfying feeling carried over after the game on Twitter, where the Redskins players were tweeting away. Players like quarterback Robert Griffin III, who answered ESPN anchor Trey Wingo’s sarcastic tweet about his one incomplete pass on the day:

Others also chimed in, like:

Kerrigan Answers Qs, Hands Out Tickets

Posted by Andrew Walker on November 16, 2012 – 12:33 pm

So we learned yesterday that Ryan Kerrigan would be a math teacher/football coach if he wasn’t in the NFL, he’s a bandwagon fan, he still gets nervous before football games and that he considers teammate London Fletcher the most underrated player in the league.

Kerrigan was participating in the second @Redskins Player Twitter Takeover, in which he actually got in front of our laptops and had control of the @Redskins Twitter account for a good half-hour or so. Rookie running back Alfred Morris was our first @Redskins Player Twitter Takeover participant, which happened on Tuesday.

Kerrigan on Thursday also surprised our followers by handing out two pairs of tickets to Sunday’s Redskins-Eagles NFC East showdown at FedExField to whoever could answer a special Kerrigan-themed trivia question (see below).

Here’s the entire @Redskins Ryan Kerrigan Twitter Takeover from yesterday:
