2012 Rewind: Sweep Of NFC East Rival

Since 1934 the Redskins and Eagles have squared off 156 times and unlike the heated rivalry with the Cowboys and the longstanding tension with the Giants, the Redskins have won over 50 percent of their games against their Pennsylvania counterparts.

Similar to the inaugural installment of Redskins-Eagles in 1934, the Redskins swept in 2012 thanks to a clipping of the Eagles wings in a 31-6 victory in Week 11 and a seven point victory in Week 16 that sprung them into a do-or-die matchup with the Cowboys a week later.

While the Eagles had been the Redskins worst nightmare throughout the early 2000’s, one man didn’t even blink when Philly came to town last year–Robert Griffin III.

Bowen Channels Tragedy To Help Others

Not every charity has a happy inspiration, but Redskins’ defensive end Stephen Bowen would like to provide peace to families that might not otherwise be so fortunate.

It was June 2011, shortly before signing with the Redskins, that Bowen and his wife Tiffany gave birth to twin boys, Stephen Jr. and Skyler.

The boys were born prematurely at just 24 weeks, and entered immediately into the fight of their young lives.

Weeks later, Skyler developed an infection that his underdeveloped immune system was unable to fight, and he passed away.

Understanding how fortunate they were cover the medical and funeral costs of their child, Stephen and Tiffany developed a plan to turn their loss into a saving grace for others. Read more »

Posted by Stephen Czarda on March 13, 2013 – 2:19 pm

Kedric Golston

On Wednesday, the Redskins re-signed one of their core players of the last seven years, veteran defensive end Kedric Golston.

The 2006 sixth-round pick out of the University of Georgia appeared in all 16 games for the 2012 NFC East champions, providing quality depth behind starters Stephen Bowen, Jarvis Jenkins, and Adam Carriker.

After signing his contract, Golston took to Twitter (@Golston64) to thank the fans and celebrate his return to the Burgundy and Gold: Read more »

VIDEO: Stephen Bowen On ‘NFL AM’

Posted by Andrew Walker on November 19, 2012 – 11:37 am

(AP photo)

Redskins defensive end Stephen Bowen’s intimidating game face (see above) wasn’t enough to detract the folks at the NFL Network from putting him on national television this morning.

Bowen was interviewed live by the “NFL AM” crew about yesterday’s 31-6 win over the Eagles, Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III and his team’s big Thanksgiving Day matchup with the Dallas Cowboys Thursday at Cowboys Stadium.

Bowen said the quick turnaround from yesterday’s game vs. the Eagles to Thursday’s game vs. Cowboys will result in some long days and nights in the few days leading up to the matchup.

“It’s all going to be worth it once you get that win on Thursday, because you have a couple days off and then get ready for the following week,” he said.

Here’s the entire interview with Bowen, who also was the subject of a recent Redskins Google+ Hangout:

BLOOPER: Bowen Ruins Rookie’s Filming

Posted by Andrew Walker on November 17, 2012 – 11:35 am

The photo above is Redskins rookie running back Alfred Morris‘ reaction to veteran teammate Stephen Bowen intentionally wrecking a quick video filming.

While shooting a video encouraging Redskins fans to participate in this week’s 12th Man Showdown vs. the Philadelphia Eagles, Morris was off to a great start — but that was when Bowen came out of the nearby training room, saw our operation, turned around, and dropped his trousers.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is an old-fashioned mooning.

Fortunately for you Redskins Blog readers, I was able to keep the camera on Morris and off Bowen’s rear end. Here’s the video — try not to laugh to Morris’ reaction:

VIDEO: Stephen Bowen’s Google+ Hangout

Posted by Andrew Walker on November 2, 2012 – 2:35 pm

Washington Redskins defensive end Stephen Bowen today participated in the team’s fourth Google+ Hangout of the season.

Bowen took questions from fans who were very interested in how the Redskins’ defense planned on trying to stop Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton and company on Sunday at FedExField.

But the Hangout took an interesting turn when Redskins nose tackle Barry Cofield interrupted — first just listening on his own computer, then wrecking Bowen’s setup, and then going back on his computer and adding his two cents.

Here’s the video of today’s Google+ Hangout:

You Could Hang Out With Stephen Bowen

Posted by Andrew Walker on October 31, 2012 – 10:52 am

Ask the entire Redskins roster who the funniest guy is on the team, and I guarantee you’ll hear one name way more than others:

Stephen Bowen.

He’s soft-spoken in interviews and quietly makes his way around the team’s facility throughout the day, but make no mistake: Bowen is definitely the class clown of the Redskins — and YOU have a chance to “hang out” with him.

The Redskins are hosting their fourth Google+ Hangout of the season on Friday at 2 p.m., and here’s how you can be picked to participate:

Kerrigan Credited With Sack Vs. Rams

Posted by Andrew Walker on September 20, 2012 – 10:41 am

A review of last Sunday’s Washington Redskins-St. Louis Rams game by the league and Elias Sports Bureau has parlayed into a full sack for Washington Redskins outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan.

The review comes at the chagrin of defensive end Stephen Bowen, who was originally credited with the sack on the play.

Happy ‘Golden Birthday’ To Jarvis Jenkins

Posted by Brian Tinsman on April 24, 2012 – 3:03 pm

What would a birthday be without a picture of a teammate hug? (FYI: This photo was taken last August.)

Things have been awfully serious on the blog recently, and it’s time to freshen things up.  Fortunately, defensive end Jarvis Jenkins was kind enough to be born 24 years ago today, and is celebrating his one and only “golden birthday.”
