Welcome to your weekly Redskins Social Media Spotlight, where we highlight the trendy topics and social media campaigns going on this week in Redskins Nation. Check it out and make suggestions below.

If you missed it, make sure you go back and read last week’s spotlight. It looked at a little (non-serious) tiff between two roommates, Mother’s Day wishes from players to their Mom’s, tight end Logan Paulsen‘s mistaken identity and more!

But moving on to this week and what Redskins players are doing and saying in the socialsphere.

Organized Team Activities (OTAs) start today and that means one thing Redskins fans, football is back and the season is just around the corner. All of the players have returned to Redskins Park for three days of OTAs (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday). The exact practice time’s for the next two weeks of practice sessions has yet to be determined but, if we base it off of years prior, should have a somewhat similar look to this week’s sessions.

Here’s a basic overview of the schedule:

  1. First Week: May 20-23
  2. Second Week: May 28-30
  3. Third Week: June 3-6

So without further ado, we bring you this week’s Social Media Weekly Spotlight, stacked full with an inspirational quote from defensive lineman Jarvis Jenkins, an update on the progress of quarterback Robert Griffin III (from Griffin III himself), offensive tackle Tyler Polumbus visits RGIII in Texas, and safety Reed Doughty goes fly fishing with his son.

Welcome to your weekly Redskins Social Media Spotlight, where we highlight the trendy topics and social media campaigns going on this week in Redskins Nation. Check it out and make suggestions below.

Last week’s Social Media Weekly Spotlight dived into the Combine, including some of the responses that Redskins players had in regards to the results, as well as WR Pierre Garçon’s plea to LB London Fletcher to play one more year. We still do not know the answer to the latter (hopefully, we’ll have more information by the end of this week).

In fact, at this point in the decision process, all we have to fall back on is the interview with Redskins.com that the saavy vet had following the season. While some may be inclined to sit back and wonder what if, trying to envision the future with or without the middle linebacker, we will not. You may ask, why? Well, because life must go on for the time being.

So without further ado, we bring you another installment of your weekly Redskins Social Media Spotlight, consisting of Niles Paul’s Harlem Shake, Joshua Morgan’s inspiring picture, Chris Baker’s plea for 10k Twitter followers, and more!

Redskins Social Media Weekly Spotlight

The Super Bowl has come and gone which means it’s time to turn our attention to April’s NFL Draft. So join us as we begin to focus on certain team needs and start to analyze the prospects preparing to make the jump from college to the pros. The next few months should be a fun ride.

This year’s draft is as important as ever for the Redskins to build on this year’s success. It’s important to add key pieces so that the team can continue to make positive strides without taking any steps backwards.

There are many question marks that the team will need to address.

Who will the Redskins select? Will they address the needs in the secondary? What’s the status of linebacker London Fletcher? Will Robert Griffin III be ready for training camp? These are all questions that will slowly, but surely, be answered over the course of the next few months.

And if you all are wondering what moves are brewing at Redskins Park or if there is a magical potion being concocted to help address  the void left by football, sorry. We have no secret ingredient to remedy the heartache that the offseason brings.

Coaches are studying game film as the process of preparing the playbooks for next year starts. The scouts are watching tape of college players as they start to finalize their draft and free agent boards. And decisions are being made as the coaches decide which players will return before the free agency period begins on March 12.

If you are coming to us for insider info, we don’t have any top secret information to divulge just yet, but what I can tell you is that we are feeling the same effects as you, a sense of helplessness that is the void left by football.

Problem solved if games were year around. Unfortunately, the players association probably would never agree to that deal. But, I digress.

We’re bringing you yet another Social Media Weekly Spotlight, including a message from LB London Fletcher for Dallas fans! You’ll like what the savvy vet had to say.

Redskins Weekly Social Media Spotlight

Welcome to your weekly Redskins Social Media Spotlight, where we highlight the trendy topics and social media campaigns going on this week in Redskins Nation. Check it out and make suggestions below.

The Baltimore Ravens defeated the San Francisco 49ers 34-31 last night in Super Bowl XLVII. If you predicted that a Harbaugh would win the Super Bowl, well then you would be correct. This time around it was John Harbaugh riding off into the proverbial sunset with LB Ray Lewis guiding the chariot.

There is a lot to talk about and a lot to take away from yesterday’s game, including 65 combined points, a power outage and a fourth quarter goal line stand preventing yet another fourth quarter comeback in a Super Bowl. In fact, the 31 points scored by the 49ers were the most-ever by a team in a losing effort.

However, that’s not our job to breakdown and analyze how or why the Ravens were victorious.

Unlike the lights in the Superdome, this week’s Social Media Spotlight shines on Redskins rookie QB Robert Griffin III, RB Alfred Morris, and LB London Fletcher all whom took to Twitter from the Big Easy.

In case you’ve been living under a rock over the past few days, Robert Griffin III was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. The well-deserving quarterback undeniably had an incredible rookie campaign and received an outpouring of support from fans, teammates, and colleagues around the league following the announcement.

Here’s the quarterback’s response after receiving the award. Read more »

LT Trent Williams (@TrentW71) demonstrated growth and maturity in 2012 after dealing with some off-the-field issues in 2011. He was able to overcome adversity and bounce back this year to separate himself as one of the premier tackles in the game.

The coaching staff entrusted him with the all-important task of protecting QB Robert Griffin III’s blindside, ultimately leading to a Pro Bowl selection for his outstanding play.

Last Friday, No. 71 sat down to participate in a Twitter Takeover of the @Redskins Twitter account and answered fan questions. In case you missed it, here’s how it went: Read more »

Redskins Weekly Social Media Spotlight

The 2012 season will be remembered by the performances of two Pro Bowl-caliber rookies, a NFC East Championship, “sky-is-the-limit” expectations and, ultimately, a first-round exit at home. Success? Maybe. Step in the right direction? Absolutely.

We all know that a winning culture is not built through complacency, yet it is built on desire and a will to win that supersedes any one individual. Laying the groundwork for such success can sometimes be an elusive first step, but everyone can agree that the future is bright with this talented squad.

One thing is for certain after watching the Divisional round playoffs this weekend, the Redskins have a foundation in place to compete for a long time: a strong rookie class, veteran leadership, and let’s not forget the best fans in the NFL. Hey, Rome wasn’t built in a day, right?

The groundwork has been laid and Redskins’ social media is here to bring YOU along for the ride and provide fans everywhere unique opportunities to engage with the team.

Cooley Talks Good And Bad Social Media

Posted by Brian Tinsman on December 2, 2011 – 12:16 pm

There is no question that Twitter has changed the sports world that we know and love, from fans, to media, and especially to players.  Players can now be known, loved and scrutinized on a whole new level, and the private life of an athlete is quickly eroding.

These were just some of the topics of discussion at last night’s SB Nation presents “BWBDC Thursday Night Watch Party & Chalk Talk,” which featured Redskins tight end and social media darling Chris Cooley.

Chris–with the help of his brother Tanner–has been on the cutting edge of social media with his player blog (and his brother has branched out into SportsBuzz) and Twitter.  While he has admittedly grown more guarded in the last two years, he’s always recognized the benefits of social media:

“For me, I’ve used it to show people my real personality,” he said.  “Coming into the league, I was out of Utah State, and I looked like Ricky Bobby on camera, with my hands.  I was so awkward, I was so uncomfortable in front of people–I was an introverted kid.”

He continued: “Being able to work with my brother, who ran my blog, and be able to do what I wanted to do, allowed me to show people my personality in a comfortable way,” he siad.  “I can edit what I’m doing, I can put out whatever I’m doing, and I can show people whatever I want.” Read more »

Better Than A Cup O’ Joe

For those residents of Redskins Nation that also spend time in the Twitterverse, you’re aware that Redskins players are some of the most active media socialites in the NFL.  Some players tweet from the moment they wake up in the morning (“Rising n grind,” if you will), until the moment they turn out the light (“Nite tweeps,” if you will).

Since it is Thursday, I thought I’d share with you a little morning inspiration that will propel you through the rest of your work week, courtesy of your Washington Redskins:
