According to Washington Redskins linebacker Ryan Kerrigan, the pressure is on quarterback Kirk Cousins to host a successful Thanksgiving dinner. According to Cousins, the pressure will mostly be on his wife who is in charge of cooking the turkey.

“I just got married this summer so I guess this will be the first time we’re starting our own tradition together as a married couple,” said Cousins. “Knowing my wife, in only the four or five months that we’ve been married, she’s lived up to the hype. She’s done a really good job cooking. So no doubt, Thanksgiving for her is game day.”

Along with Kerrigan, Cousins will host several other teammates and their wives as well as his own family members.

He’ll try to find some time to peek in on some games, too.

“It should be fun hosting a few of the other guys on the team, have some fun and fellowship and watch some football,” said Cousins. “It’s the 5 “F’s” in Thanksgiving that I love: football, family/friends, fun, good food, and a four-day weekend so I’m looking forward to that.”

Running back Roy Helu Jr. will also be with his wife Thursday after the team finishes practice. He’ll go to his sister’s house and eventually celebrate the holiday at his friend’s while unable to be home in California where he grew up.

“You kind of just adapt and make a lot of food,” said Helu, who promises to watch a lot of football as well. “We haven’t really started a tradition or anything.”

“I like the leg of the turkey, the dark meat,” he added.  “I want to try a deep-fried turkey because I haven’t tried one before. My pet peeve is cold Thanksgiving food. My favorite dessert is pumpkin pie or pecan pie– I switch in between– and cheesecake.”

Tight end Jordan Reed doesn’t plan to have the television on when he makes the trip to his brother’s home in Baltimore. He’ll be happy to lie around, talk to family and enjoy the macaroni and cheese his mother, the specialty cook, will pass around the table.

Kerrigan meanwhile is looking forward to his aunt’s sweet potato casserole and linebacker Trent Murphy expressed his excitement to try the fried turkey long snapper Nick Sundberg is preparing.

Wide receiver Santana Moss will also be with family Thursday, including his kids, whom he hasn’t seen for a while.

“I’m always thinking about the life that we get to live, that we don’t appreciate much,” he said. “I know some of us do. A lot of us don’t. We all complain, but at the end of the day it could be worse. So you’ve got to appreciate and love up your family.”

Skins Spotlight With Defensive End Kedric Golston

Only two Washington Redskins remain from the 2006 roster.

The first, of course, is wide receiver Santana Moss who has climbed into the greatest wide receivers in team history talk with his precise route running, flashy moves and consistent hands. No matter what day of the week it is, Moss has a large media following due to his quotability and the nature of his position drawing attention.

But who is the other long-tenured Redskins? Defensive end Kedric Golston.

While he may not grasp headlines or have a choreographed sack dance, Golston is a player coaches know they can count on and is a voice younger players, regardless of position, listen to.

On Wednesday, Redskins.com caught up with Golston to get his insight on the importance of veteran leadership on the defensive line and head coach Jay Gruden’s contagious attitude.

The Redskins did not shock anyone by pursuing the receiver position on the opening day of free agency. However, signing a 34-year old slot specialist was a surprise.  I’m glad the team re-signed Santana Moss. Here are five reasons why.

Santana Moss: ‘Cowboy Killer’

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on January 8, 2014 – 2:33 pm

Santana2

Santana Moss made his proper introduction to Washington with two touchdowns and two hugs, one each for Chief Zee and  Clinton Portis.

Moss caught four passes  for 96 yards against the Bears in his first game as a Redskin, but the receiver said earlier he considers a Week 2 performance at Dallas in 2005 his debut.

In the “Monday Night Miracle,” Moss caught two touchdowns in the final five minutes as the Redskins beat the Cowboys, 14-13.

“It’s always somebody, somewhere, anywhere I go, that has that memory. It’s still in their head, and they always bring it up to me. So it’s a pleasrue to be on the other side of that,” Moss told Chris Paul on Redskins Late Night.

“That really kind of started my career off here, and all I do is think back about that night, because that night kind of changed everything about who I’ve become to be a Redskin now.”

Watch Moss relive that memory and talk about how his size stoked a competitive fire in the second edition of, “Best of Redskins Late Night.”

Around the time Washington fell to 3-6, the media began to wonder who in the locker room would change.

When the team struggled, beat reporters knew they could trust at least two players to provide consistent, honest answers to their questions.

Wide receiver Santana Moss and fullback Darrel Young stood out. On Friday, they were recognized for their professionalism with the Redskins Media Good Guy Award.

Each received eight votes according to ESPN NFL Nation reporter John Keim, who has covered the team since 1994.

“Sometimes it’s good to be hated, ” Santana Moss said.

He understands how you might detest him if you’re a Cowboys fan. He’s okay with that because he hurt your feelings and wants to hurt them again.

In his just second game as Redskin, Moss caught 5 passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns in a 14-13 Monday Night Miracle.

On Redskins Late Night, hosted by Chris Paul and presented by the Greene Turtle, Moss discussed his role in the rivalry. Read more »
