Five Things To Like About Santana Moss

The Redskins did not shock anyone by pursuing the receiver position on the opening day of free agency. However, signing a 34-year old slot specialist was a surprise.  I’m glad the team re-signed Santana Moss. Here are five reasons why.

Redskins React To Perry Riley Jr. Signing

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on March 11, 2014 – 11:14 am

Perry Riley Jr

The Redskins announced Tuesday the team re-signed inside linebacker Perry Riley Jr. less than five hours before the beginning of the free agency period. After DeAngelo Hall, Brian Orakpo and Chris Baker, he is the fourth starting defender the team kept away from the open market.

Sometimes you just have to let it breathe.

That’s how Robert Griffin III explained his afro on Twitter, where he posted photos of  himself modelling Baylor’s new men’s basketball uniforms.

The Redskins Bobblehead Inventory

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on March 6, 2014 – 2:59 pm

bobbleheadBeginning Feb. 24, Washington Nationals pitcher Tyler Clippard took up residence in my Twitter timeline.

That day the MLB franchise announced a fan vote would determine which player would serve as the model for the team’s final bobblehead of the 2014 promotional schedule. Moved by the prospect of a bobblehead with rec specs, the people selected Clippard over new manager Matt Williams and first baseman Adam LaRoche. The pitchers were behind him all the way.

The team announced the news Monday, and Washington Post beat writer James Wagner got Clippard’s reaction in a blog post published Thursday morning. All this bobble media begged the question, what are the bobtions bobblehead options for Redskins fans?

Sidenote: I would love to interview a bobblehead artisan. The bodies don’t vacillate much, but each face presents a challenge. Some depictions are better than others. Maybe there’s only so much you can do with a giant head.

To the left you’ll see a picture of the Robert Griffin III bobblehead offered for $20.00 at the offical team store.

RGIII, Platypuses And 10 Sock Selfies

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on March 5, 2014 – 3:46 pm

Say a word enough times and it loses all meaning. Repeat a word enough and it turns from a tool of expression into a bare sound. Who made up the word “platypus” anyway? That sounds silly.

Well – thanks to Robert Griffin III – that’s how I feel about lower extremities now.

The Redskins quarterback tweeted a sock selfie and a request on Wednesday. He asked more than a million followers to show him their sock swag. Because I primarily own plain socks, I was curious to see what would come in.

Now I’ve been overexposed to the human ankle, which I know is built for a purpose but continues to look like a funny canvas for cotton and lycra art.

RGIII, Hall, Baker Welcome Back Orakpo

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on March 4, 2014 – 10:19 am

Although the franchise tag is not a guarantee Brian Orakpo will return to the Redskins in 2014, it grants the Redskins control of his rights and allows the team more time to negotiate a long-term deal should Washington want to move in that direction.

Orakpo has taken the move in stride.

“They did what they had to do,” he told the Washington Post. “I’m just kind of glad we can at least make a step moving forward instead of being at a stalemate with this whole situation.”

The linebacker’s probable return was reason enough for his teammates to celebrate on Twitter. Read more »

Baylor Rock Star RGIII Talks ‘Fresh Start’

Robert Griffin III has given literal bear hugs, scaled a 53-foot free-standing rock structure, delivered an inspirational speech and appeared on national television to talk about the Redskins all in the few days at Baylor.

When I go back to school my most productive move is procuring fried chicken sandwiches from my favorite biscuit kitchen.

The DC Sports Bog captured the quarterback’s comments on Washington’s coaching change while RGIII appeared on a Fox Sports 1 broadcast of a women’s basketball game between the Bears and the Oklahoma Sooners.

“We’re all excited, everybody in the [Redskins] organization,” Griffin III said. “Talking to my teammates, it’s not that we’re starting over; we’re just getting a fresh start. So we’ve got a new leader at the helm and we’re going to be a united front.” Read more »

Clowney Outruns Every QB But RGIII

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on February 25, 2014 – 12:24 pm

Even if Jadeveon Clowney jogged through his final year at South Carolina, that’s plenty speedy.

The 6-foot-5, 266-pound defensive end blazed through the 40-yard dash in 4.53 seconds Monday at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

Clowney’s 40 was faster than every quarterback at the Combine this year, and according to ESPN Stats and Info, his unofficial time of 4.47 seconds was faster than every active NFL quarterback since 2006 except for Robert Griffin III. Read more »

Combine Look Back: The Class Of 2012

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on February 21, 2014 – 1:42 pm

(AP)

Although 40-yard dashes, broad jumps and bench press reps don’t really give us an idea of a prospect’s viability as a football player, the physical tests can give a glimpse at a man’s raw athletic potential and ability to thrive in a competitive atmosphere. Over the course of the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine, the Redskins blog will take a look back at how Washington’s past three draft classes fared in Indianapolis.

Prospect: QB Robert Griffin III Read more »
