In continuing our mini-series on the Redskins-Cowboys rivalry, let’s take a look at a few of 2012s unsung heroes, players that had big performances but may not have grabbed the spotlight so to speak.

As you know, the team was 2-0 versus Dallas this season which included a captivating, edge-of-your-seat ‘W’ on Thanksgiving Day and a division-clinching victory at home in the final week of the season.

The six players listed below are a few guys who may not necessarily be the ‘talk of the town’ but players who we think definitely deserve some recognition for their clutch performances.

Posted by Chris Herting on April 5, 2013 – 11:52 am

starters

If you’ve been following the Redskins this offseason then you already know that the team has been able to retain most of last year’s championship roster. But did you know that they are the NFL’s retention leaders?

Following the re-signing of CB DeAngelo Hall, the Redskins now have more returning starters than any other team in the league with 21 of their 22 starters on both sides of the ball expected back next year (previously cited by CSN Washington’s Rich Tandler and Draftmetrics.com). That leaves unrestricted free agent safety Madieu Williams, who is still on the open market, as the lone remaining player.

Have you ever made a pact with a group of friends that years later became a reality? It could be as simple as an agreement to always remain in touch or it could be a pact much larger, much more meaningful than that.

In the case of Redskins NT Chris Baker, it was a pact with two of his high school teammates from Windsor (CT) that one day they would all be playing in the National Football League.

UPDATE: Redskins Mock Draft Tracker

Posted by Chris Herting on March 12, 2013 – 12:10 pm

draft

The Redskins made a splash yesterday re-signing six of their pending free agents and, arguably, some of the team’s key core players to help build off of last year’s NFC East Championship. The team also announced the signing of veteran free agent offensive tackle Tony Pashos (former Cleveland Brown) in addition to announcing that they had released CB DeAngelo Hall.

According to coach Mike Shanahan, yesterday’s roster moves helped the team get back under the salary cap and in position to meet the league-mandated cap requirements prior to the start of free agency today at 4pm. But despite the moves, it doesn’t appear that the team will have enough wiggle room to be a major player in free agency.

It’s possible that front office has something up their sleeves but the most likely scenario is that the team will turn their attention to the draft to help fill certain needs.

Keep in mind that a lot can happen between now and April and, yet again, consensus among the mock drafts below seems to be that the Redskins will lean toward drafting secondary.

Thought remains that this year’s draft class is secondary-laden and that there should be some intriguing prospects at number fifty-one, including some that may peak your interest as draft weekend approaches. So let’s go ahead and take a look at our updated Mock Draft Tracker and a few players that some of the experts think the Redskins should pursue.

According to the article, Sinkfield, a 6-1 192 pound wideout, was clocked at a blazing 4.27 seconds on his first attempt. His second attempt was faster at 4.19 and, in an attempt to try and prove doubters wrong, ran again but “reportedly stumbled on the third attempt” running a 4.44.

Long story short, the man can run, averaging a 4.3 second 40-yard dash in three attempts. Here’s the video of the reported 4.19 40-yard dash attempt.
