We’d like to introduce you to Aiden Lipscomb, a fun-loving, energetic, yet sometimes expectedly shy, animated three year old from Northern Virginia. He’s still just a toddler but his heart is full of life and just like the rest of us bleeds burgundy and gold!

He claims to be your number one Redskins fan something that after reminiscing on the afternoon spent with Aiden is hard to argue.

His Dad, Chris Lipscomb, grew up in a Redskins family located in Alexandria, Virginia, while his Mom, Leslie Lipscomb, was raised in nearby Clifton, so there was never any doubt in their minds that their little boy Aiden would grow up singing ‘Hail to the Redskins!’ – his favorite song by the way.

When asked about his favorite Redskins player without hesitation he answered smiling, “Chris Cooley.” His answer was fitting seeing as his #47 jersey was the shirt that he decided to sport on his dream tour of Redskins Park.

What you would never be able to tell without knowing his story is that at just five months old Aiden was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS), an aggressive type of muscle cancer.

But as he trotted from room to room, one thing was for certain, no moment was too big for this youngster. Nothing could nor would stand in the way of today’s joyous day as he explored the halls of the Redskins Training Facility. The moments, including an unexpected encounter with quarterback Robert Griffin III in the team’s video room, did not faze the young man.

He did not stand in shock or awe in the presence of the second overall pick. He did not quiver at the sight of the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year. Instead he did what any kid on the playground would do, offered Griffin III a high-five. Immediately, it became apparent that “Iron Aiden”, as his family likes to call him, was not afraid of the big stage.

In fact, it was endearingly clear he shared the same qualities of determination and fight as the rookie quarterback who just a few months ago carried the Redskins on his back to the team’s first NFC East Championship since 1999.

When all was said and done, it’s fair to say that Aiden bestowed a quality of appreciation upon all of us who were able to be on hand today to witness his ‘dream’ day.

Following the tour, we asked Aiden’s parents what this day means to them and their family. “This is something more than anybody could ever ask for, it’s amazing”, said Chris. “He may not recognize it now, but when [Aiden] grows up it will be a cool sight for him to look back on”, something he’ll never forget.

As far as Aiden’s health is concerned, his Mom Leslie assured us that “He’s been in remission now a little over a year and a half and he’s doing great. He’s thriving and we have a bunch of ‘Rally for Aiden’ supporters” that have been a tremendous support group for the family.

She added, “[Today’s] just a really nice opportunity. And after having gone through everything that we went through for so long it’s just really nice to find moments that are inspiring.”

You see, oftentimes as adults we get caught up and lose sight of what’s really important, the simple things; however, kids seem to have the innate ability to simplify life’s complexities and appreciate the pure joy that it can bring.

That’s exactly how Aiden approached his visit. He valued every second he got to spend around his favorite team.

So how long has the Lipscomb Family been Redskins fans? “It’s in our blood”, uttered Chris.

We’re not sure if today will ultimately have an impact on Aiden’s life, but it certainly had an impact on the lives that he touched around Ashburn’s practice facility. For that we say welcome to the Redskins family, Aiden. HTTR!

In just three days, the Washington Redskins and the Indianapolis Colts square off in both team’s third game of the preseason — which is usually the preseason contest in which the teams’ starters play the most.

The game is being billed as some as the matchup between April’s No. 1 NFL Draft pick, Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, and the No. 2 pick, Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III.

However you are getting ready for the game, the Redskins were outside on Wednesday preparing for the Colts, who have averaged 31 points per game through their first two preseason games (1-1).

Hundreds of automotive and Redskins fans braved the rain at Redskins Park to have one heck of a time.

Tuesday’s training camp practice at Redskins Park was the last one that will be open to the public for the 2012 season.

It was also the last official day of training camp that will be held at the Ashburn, Va., facility for at least the next few years.

The team announced in June that it will be relocating its training camp to Richmond, Va., which is about a 2-hour, 15-minute drive south along Interstate 95 from their Ashburn facility.

So although it will not be a major move hours and hours away, Tuesday’s practice meant a little something extra to many Redskins fans who have, in essence, grown up watching training camp at Redskins Park.

It was also bittersweet for the players, like veteran linebacker London Fletcher, who looks forward to the move.

The Washington Redskins completed their second of three scheduled mini-camp practice sessions today at Redskins Park.

Wednesday saw a lively workout outdoors after Tuesday’s practice was moved into the indoor practice facility due to heavy rains in the area.

The Washington Redskins have completed their first of three mini-camp practice sessions of the 2012 season.

Heavy rains in the Ashburn, Va., area moved the session into the Redskins’ indoor practice facility.

Highlights of the day for the offense included a couple nice grabs from wide receiver Pierre Garçon — one of which was a one-handed grab for a touchdown.

Defensively, rookie cornerback Chase Minnifield made a nice interception across the middle on a pass from quarterback Rex Grossman.

Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell will conduct a press conference to discuss today’s announcement about the Washington Redskins relocating their summer training camp to Richmond, Va., effective in 2013.

The press conference is scheduled to begin at 1:20 p.m.

The governor also announced earlier today that the Redskins will retain and expand their headquarters and training facility in Ashburn, Va.

Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell announced today that the Washington Redskins will relocate their summer training camp to within the City of Richmond, Va., effective in 2013.

The governor also announced that the team will retain and expand its headquarters and training facility in Ashburn, Va.

According to a release from Governor Bob McDonnell’s office, the Redskins will begin working with the City of Richmond to identify a suitable training camp site to hold summer training camp practices in the city.

According to the release, the City of Richmond is considering a number of locations for the Redskins’ training camp and will “make further announcements regarding that process in the days and weeks ahead.”

The team is currently holding its training camp in Ashburn.

“In conjunction with the governor’s office and the City of Richmond, we also look forward to finding a great summer training camp facility in the city for both our team and our fans to enjoy,” Bruce Allen, Redskins executive vice president and general manager, said in the release.

Richmond Mayor Dwight Jones said that bringing the Redskins training camp to Richmond is “beyond exciting.”

“This will have a great economic impact for Richmond and the region,” Jones said in the release. “I thank the owners and the senior executives of the Redskins for their ongoing work with us to determine the right facilities to meet the team’s needs. I thank Governor McDonnell for his leadership.”

According to the release, the expansion of the Redskins training facility in Ashburn is estimated to support 393 jobs during construction. The existing corporate headquarters supports 350 jobs and $2.2 million in state and local revenue — not including the corporate income tax paid by the team.

“During the last two years the Washington Redskins have made significant improvements to modernize FedEx Field and Redskins Park, ensuring a best-in-class game day experience for our fans and an excellent training environment for our players,” Allen said. “We are very pleased to continue our relationship with the Commonwealth of Virginia that my father established 41 years ago. We are proud to call Loudoun County the home of Redskins Park.”

The Washington Redskins were back where they belonged — outdoors — Wednesday for their second round of organized team activities of the 2012 season.

Our crew with Redskins.com TV was there to catch the action.

The team underwent drills Wednesday on a muggy, steamy afternoon. It was a far cry from Monday’s first round of OTAs, when rain in the area forced the team into its brand new indoor training facility.

Simply put: It sure feels like summer here in D.C.

The team will have its third and final round of OTAs for the week this afternoon. The OTAs fun continues next week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

After a day of plane tracking, Twitter photos, and blog teasers, new Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III has finally come home to roost at Redskins Park.

Griffin arrived with his family at the facilities late this afternoon and was escorted around his new place of employment by the Redskins brass.  This was his second trip to the facilities, but the first wearing a Redskins emblem.  The last time he came by was several weeks ago for his official visit with the team.

This visit was a lot less awkward, and lot more exciting for everyone involved.

Redskins broadcaster Larry Michael and Jordan Beane made the trip up to New York early this morning in order to document the Griffin trip back to Washington.  Here’s a video recap of the first of many Redskins days with Robert Griffin III:
