Montgomery Offers Depth With Versatility

News broke earlier this week that the Redskins had re-signed interior offensive lineman Will Montgomery, in a deal that may be more important than initially meets the eye.

With only four interior linemen on the roster for next season, the Redskins had an obvious need to address, with the ability to make other moves.  Montgomery’s proficiency at both center and guard gives the Redskins the option to target either position in the draft or free agency.

And if injuries strike again in 2012, the Redskins know that they have a quality player to fill in accordingly.

Olsen Headed To The Saints, NFC Playoffs

The season continues for one member of the Burgundy and Gold, as Redskins practice squad offensive lineman Eric Olsen is Bayou-bound.  Earlier this week, he was officially signed to the 53-man playoff roster of the New Orleans Saints.

He broke the news himself during locker room clean-out on Monday, telling ‘Redskins Insider’ Mike Jones that he was sad to leave:

“I’m sad because I really like the guys around here, and this is like football heaven, and Coach Shanahan is bigger than a legend,” said the former Notre Dame standout, who last season appeared in one game for the Denver Broncos. “But I’ve got to take this.”

He shared it with the world on Twitter (@EOlsen69) a short while later:

Yesterday during his media session with the New Orleans media, Saints head coach Sean Payton confirmed the news of Olsen’s signing, announcing that he will wear No. 70. Read more »

Meet your new redzone threat, rookie offensive tackle Willie Smith.

The Fresh Prince himself.

The East Carolina product currently registers at 6-6, 290 pounds, and is looking for a spot on the Redskins offensive line.

But a few short years ago,  Smith was 6-6, 225 pounds, and lined up at wide receiver at North Johnson High School in Kelly, N.C.
