Some Sorry For Counting Redskins Out
Posted by on January 2, 2013 – 11:22 amThere’s many, many NFL experts and analysts who have spent their Holiday season eating crow about how they believed the 2012 season would turn out for the Washington Redskins.
Though we at the Redskins Blog are in the process of recovering some of those same experts’ predictions from weeks and months ago, it’s also worth bringing up those who have admitted when they were wrong.
NFL.com Around The League editor Gregg Rosenthal did just that yesterday.

Redskins Among ‘Most-Watchable’ Teams
Posted by on October 5, 2012 – 10:27 amThe Washington Redskins have one of the highest-scoring offenses in the league, two incredibly talented rookies at quarterback and running back doing their thing, while all four of their games so far in 2012 have come down to the wire.
As a result, NFL.com Around The League Editor Gregg Rosenthal has included the Redskins among the best teams in this week’s “most-watchable teams” power rankings.
So where exactly do the Redskins rank on Rosenthal’s list?

More Power Rankings, Same Story
Posted by on September 4, 2012 – 3:06 pmToday’s posts have already included discussion about where the Washington Redskins fall in this week’s ProFootballTalk power rankings, so unless I see another power rankings list that has the Redskins drastically lower or higher than the mid-20s at this point, it won’t merit much discussion.
There is, however, one theme that is apparent as I look over a few other national organizations’ power rankings: slowly but surely, the Redskins are improving.
That was the case in the power rankings this week for NFL.com, ESPN.com and the National Football Post.
Here’s a little bit of breakdown of each:

NFL.com: These Two ‘NEED’ To Step Up
Posted by on August 22, 2012 – 4:39 pmNFL.com senior analyst Gil Brandt today unveiled the two players from each NFC team who “must shine” for their teams to be successful.
These players, Brandt said, often fly under the radar, but can be just as important as its established superstars in getting their team to play in the postseason.
Which two players from the Redskins “must shine?”

Hoping These Rankings Change Soon
Posted by on August 17, 2012 – 11:34 amOver the offseason, the Washington Redskins added a skilled, athletic rookie quarterback and gave a shot in the arm to their receiving corps with the addition of Pierre Garçon and Josh Morgan.
They also return one of the best defensive front sevens in the NFL and brought in a sparkplug in Raheem Morris to improve the team’s defensive secondary.
Those additions — as well as a few more newbies meshing with the returners on offense and defense — give Redskins fans something to be optimistic about in 2012.
But, as of right now, NFL.com just isn’t as impressed.

Redskins Same, Bills Higher In Rankings
Posted by on August 15, 2012 – 9:30 amTuck this one in under the “It doesn’t really matter at this point, but let’s talk about it anyway” category.
Despite defeating the Buffalo Bills in their 2012 preseason opening game, the Washington Redskins made up no ground in this week’s NFL.com Power Rankings.
The Redskins come in this week at No. 25.

London Fletcher Named ‘Top Five Over 35′
Posted by on May 18, 2012 – 11:34 amRedskins’ veteran linebacker London Fletcher this week was named the fourth-best NFL player older than 35, according to NFL.com analyst Bucky Brooks.
The selection is no surprise to those who have followed Fletcher’s career with the Redskins. Fletcher — who turns 37 years old tomorrow — last year led the NFL in tackles and is a perennial team captain.

NFL.com-Inspired Discussion Of 2007 Draft
Posted by on April 10, 2012 – 1:17 pm
AP Image
In honor of the upcoming fifth anniversary of the 2007 NFL Draft, the fine folks at NFL.com redrafted the first round for what five years of hindsight can offer.
Although the Redskins no longer have any original draft picks still on the roster, NFL analyst Elliott Harrison makes the argument that the team nailed the first pick with LaRon Landry:
6. Washington Redskins
Actual pick: LaRon Landry
Do-over pick: Same
He might be gone now (to the Jets), but Landry was a solid player for the Redskins. Sadly, like Gaines Adams, fellow Redskins safety Sean Taylor died way too young. Had Taylor and Landry been able to play together for several years, this team could’ve imposed its will on divisional foes that feature solid quarterbacks in Eli Manning, Michael Vick and Tony Romo. To say the least, it would’ve been tougher sledding with Taylor and Landry lurking in the secondary.
The thinking was correct, the player was correct, and for three plus years it worked out very well. But after the last two seasons ending in Achilles injuries, he will look to restart with the Jets, and the Redskins will look to find a healthy option at strong safety.
Here’s the remainder of the Redskins’s 2007 Draft class, and a look at other options still on the board when the Redskins made their picks: Read more »

Redskins In NFL’s 2011 Highlights…Barely
Posted by on March 28, 2012 – 4:00 pm
via NFL.com
Yesterday afternoon, NFL.com released a video entitled “The Season in Six Minutes,” meant to look back at the 2011 season in a “special six-minute presentation.” For Redskins fans, it’s six minutes that they likely won’t appreciate, or get back.
Of 362 possible seconds that the Redskins could have been featured (for better or for worse) Redskins’ footage is limited to part of one play, which takes approximately two and one-half seconds. The highlight was of Roy Helu’s infamous hurdle in Seattle, one of the top plays of the NFL season, and the first touchdown of Helu’s promising career.
That is all the attention that the Redskins got. But it could be worse, and here are several reasons why: Read more »
