Colt McCoy, Andre Roberts Make Top Plays Of The Week

Posted by Jake Kring-Schreifels on December 2, 2014 – 1:35 pm

It was pretty clear that once Washington Redskins quarterback Colt McCoy started dodging Indianapolis Colts tacklers, he was going to make a big-time play. After impossibly eluding three defenders, he had enough presence to look downfield and find his tight end Logan Paulsen for an easy score.

“The smart play probably would have been to throw it away,” said McCoy after the game. “But at point in the game, we needed a touchdown, we needed a spark, something. We found a way in and I’m happy that Logan scored.”

The effort notched him the No. 1 play of Week 13 according to NFL AM.

Close behind was another pass play this time with wide receiver Andre Roberts, who made a tightrope grab by the sideline ending in a superb catch. That earned him the fourth spot on NFL.com’s Top 5 catches of the week.

Ryan Kerrigan Talks Shanahan, Defense

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on December 16, 2013 – 2:44 pm

Kerrigan AMRyan Kerrigan appeared on NFL AM Monday morning and talked about his sanctuary.

With a quarterback change attracting added media attention in 2013, Kerrigan told the NFL Network crew that the football field is the best place to be.

“It’s tough to have all the distractions around, but at the same time, once you step in between the lines, that’s kind of our sanctuary,” Kerrigan said.

We kind of get away from all the distractions and just concentrate on playing football once we get in between the lines.”

The panel asked Kerrigan if the locker room was still behind Executive Vice President and Head Coach Mike Shanahan, and Kerrigan supported the man who brought him to D.C. Read more »

VIDEO: ‘Skins Expose Giants With Option

Posted by Andrew Walker on December 8, 2012 – 12:00 pm

Check out how the NFL Network’s “NFL AM” crew breaks down how the Redskins offense’s option attack was able to break down the New York Giants’ defense Monday night in the 17-16 Washington win.

The option has been just one wrinkle of the Redskins’ East Coast Offense, which has blossomed under head coach Mike Shanahan and offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. Tight end Logan Paulsen this week also addressed how the read-option and the pistol formation make the Washington offense’s wheels turn — though it didn’t all happen overnight.

Pay extra careful attention to this tomorrow, when the Redskins play host to the Baltimore Ravens at FedExField.

VIDEO: Alfred Morris On ‘NFL AM’

Alfred Morris on Monday night vs. the New York Giants had three awesome moments: he first eclipsed the 1,000-yard rushing mark; then he broke the Redskins’ rookie record for single-season rushing yards; and finally, he set a career-high for rushing yards with 124.

But what was probably his favorite moment from the game?

I’d guess it was his six-yard run on 3rd and 3 with 1:07 left in the game to seal Washington’s 17-16 victory.

Morris this morning was a guest on the NFL Network’s “NFL AM,” and talked about his under-the-radar performance so far, playing with Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III, his 1991 Mazda “Bentley,” and much more.

Robinson Claims ‘NFL AM’ Dancing Award

Posted by Andrew Walker on November 28, 2012 – 12:24 pm

Washington Redskins wide receiver Aldrick Robinson has earned a few awards in his football career — including being named first-team All-Conference USA while at SMU — but he has a new title to add to his accolades: award-winning dancer.

Robinson this morning was named the winner of the weekly “Dancing With The Starters” contest by the NFL Network’s “NFL AM” crew. Robinson made his moves (see below) after his 68-yard touchdown last Thursday in the Redskins’ 38-31 win over the Dallas Cowboys.

‘NFL AM’ tweeted about the award this morning:

Robinson, who is in his second year with the Redskins, has seen a recent surge in production. He caught a 49-yard touchdown in Week 11 against the Philadelphia Eagles — a 31-6 Washington victory — before catching his 68-yarder last Thursday against Dallas.

For the season, Robinson has 11 catches for 237 yards and three touchdowns. He also had a touchdown grab Week 1 against the New Orleans Saints.

Here’s Robinson’s award-winning dance from Thursday’s game, presented over and over for your viewing pleasure:

VIDEO: Robert Griffin III On ‘NFL AM’

Posted by Andrew Walker on November 28, 2012 – 12:00 pm

If Robert Griffin III had a vote for Offensive Rookie of the Year, he’d pick a member of the Washington Redskins.

No, he wouldn’t choose himself. He’d go with running back Alfred Morris.

Griffin III joined the NFL Network’s “NFL AM” early this morning and talked about that — and a variety of other subjects. About picking Morris for Rookie of the Year:

“My vote would go to Alfred Morris, because I wouldn’t vote for myself,” Griffin III said. “I think that’s extremely conceited and I’m not that person, so I’d vote for Alfred Morris. He’s my running back, he’s had a very quiet, but very great season for a running back and I’m proud to have him on this team.”

Griffin III also talked about being compared to Indianapolis Colts rookie quarterback Andrew Luck. Luck, of course, was selected No. 1 overall in April’s NFL Draft; Griffin III was picked second.

“Going into college, I was compared to Terrelle Pryor a lot, and now coming into the pros, it’s going to be me and Andrew Luck,” Griffin III said. “And like I tell everybody, I don’t ever root against quarterbacks and I want him to have a great career as well. If they are going to continue to compare us, hopefully we are the best comparison of all time.”

Griffin III also talked about the Redskins’ playoff chances, his style, and several other topics. Here’s the video:

VIDEO: Griffin III ‘Will Steal Thanksgiving’

Posted by Andrew Walker on November 19, 2012 – 12:15 pm

The Grinch stole Christmas, and the NFL Network’s Mark Kriegel believes Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III will steal Thanksgiving.

Kriegel made his prediction on this morning’s edition of “NFL AM,” just minutes after the crew interviewed Redskins defensive end Stephen Bowen.

He’s of course referring to the Redskins’ Thanksgiving Day matchup against the Dallas Cowboys Thursday at Cowboys Stadium. Kriegel said he’s been impressed with Griffin III’s performance in his rookie season.

“Forget the numbers, though; remember this,” Kriegel said. “Six months out of college, he has talent without hubris; youth without folly; the capacity to thrill without making the fatal mistake.”

NFL AM then cut to the clip of Tony Romo botching the hold on a game-winning field-goal attempt in a 2007 playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks.

“Hey, some guys spend their entire careers making rookie mistakes,” Kriegel said. “So do yourself a favor, take the ‘Skins over the Cowboys on Thanksgiving, OK?”

Here’s the entire piece by Kriegel and NFL AM:

VIDEO: Stephen Bowen On ‘NFL AM’

Posted by Andrew Walker on November 19, 2012 – 11:37 am

Redskins defensive end Stephen Bowen’s intimidating game face (see above) wasn’t enough to detract the folks at the NFL Network from putting him on national television this morning.

Bowen was interviewed live by the “NFL AM” crew about yesterday’s 31-6 win over the Eagles, Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III and his team’s big Thanksgiving Day matchup with the Dallas Cowboys Thursday at Cowboys Stadium.

Bowen said the quick turnaround from yesterday’s game vs. the Eagles to Thursday’s game vs. Cowboys will result in some long days and nights in the few days leading up to the matchup.

“It’s all going to be worth it once you get that win on Thursday, because you have a couple days off and then get ready for the following week,” he said.

Here’s the entire interview with Bowen, who also was the subject of a recent Redskins Google+ Hangout:

Posted by Andrew Walker on October 26, 2012 – 5:54 pm

Remember, Redskins fans: Lorenzo Alexander isn’t just a linebacker and a special teams ace — his preferred position is “athlete.”

Alexander joined the crew of the NFL Network’s “NFL AM” this morning and talked about his role on the team, Robert Griffin III and more.
