Fred Smoot Explains His Hand Gesture, Sort Of

For as much time as I spend on this blog writing about Fred Smoot — his hypothetical reality show, his bad suit award, his jawing at Marko Mitchell and everything else — it’s easy to sometimes forget that he’s actually a pretty solid football player. He finished tonight with two tackles (and one assist) along with two passes defensed, and had more of an impact than those numbers would seem to indicate. Read more »

Redskins v. Patriots – First Quarter Thoughts

It’s hard to write as enthusiastically about the first quarter as I had planned to. The team came out on fire, first overcoming a Reed Doughty penalty on the opening kickoff to hold the Patriots to three-and-out; then marching down the field on 4-for-4 passing by Jason Campbell.

The team finally was looking a little more like they do in practice … and then Tom Brady showed up. Since his touchdown pass to Randy Moss capped a 73 yard drive that barely seemed to take any time at all, the Redskins defense has looked ragged and the offense anemic.

Obviously, the second quarter is ongoing as I write this, and things have not really improved. I’m going to choose to be enthusiastic about Campbell’s initial success and hope the team gets things together as the game moves on. Read more »
