Watch Niles Paul’s Hit Over And Over

Posted by Andrew Walker on October 17, 2012 – 1:42 pm

Niles Paul had one of those hits last Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings that you just want to watch over and over again.

So here you go (courtesty of thevikingage.com).

Paul — a special teams ace when he’s not playing his usual tight end position — was asked all about the punt return smackdown on Vikings returner Marcus Sherels after the 38-24 Redskins victory.

“I just knew that was my opportunity to get down there, kicking it to my side, and make a big play,” he said, discussing the single coverage.  “I didn’t see [Sherels] fair catch it, so I just took my shot.

“I was looking around to make sure I didn’t get the flag because his helmet came off,” he continued with a grin.  “I didn’t feel like it was a helmet-to-helmet shot, I just threw my shoulder at him. If he didn’t fair catch the ball, that’s his fault.  I lowered my shoulder; felt like I made a good play.”

It’s that time of the week again to see how you Redskins Blog readers are doing with your psychic skills.

We asked you to vote which Redskins player you thought would shine last Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings in Washington’s third home game of the 2012 season FedExField.

The Redskins won 38-26, which, of course, led to another postgame poll: picking your Most Valuable Redskin of the game.

But first, here’s the results of the first poll of the day:

Redskins Celebrate Victory Over Vikings

This one had to feel good.

The Washington Redskins left FedExField tonight with a 38-26 win over the Minnesota Vikings, who came into the game at 4-1 and one of the surprise teams of the NFL.

But the Redskins — who evened their record to 3-3 with the win — were firing on all cylinders throughout the game and were too much for the Vikings (4-2).

Several players went to Twitter after the game to show exactly how pumped up they were for the win.

Quarterback Robert Griffin III:

WAS-MIN: Fourth Quarter Conclusions

Posted by Andrew Walker on October 14, 2012 – 7:29 pm

Everybody, cram the streets of D.C. — the streak is over!

The Washington Redskins defeated the Minnesota Vikings today 38-26 to end their eight-game home losing streak at FedExField

But this win over the NFC North leaders does more than end the home-game snide for the Redskins. It gives them a ton of confidence heading into their first NFC East game of the year next Sunday at the New York Giants.

The Vikings’ first possession of the fourth quarter ended with a 24-yard interception return for a touchdown by safety Madieu Williams. It was Williams’ second career pick-six, and the Washington’s fourth defensive touchdown of the season.

WAS-MIN: Third Quarter Thoughts

Posted by Andrew Walker on October 14, 2012 – 6:29 pm

We’ve seen this before. The Washington Redskins take what seems like a comfortable 24-12 lead against the Minnesota Vikings into the fourth quarter of today’s game at FedExField.

But this team has already let late leads slip away several times this season. What have they learned from those losses, and can they cash in with a victory this time around?

We’ll find out here over the next 15 minutes.

The Redskins’ faced a 3rd and 1 from the 29-yard line on their opening drive of the second half and converted with a 1-yard run by Alfred Morris. It was Washington’s third 3rd-down conversion in seven tries, which is considerably better than last week, when they converted just 1-of-9 plays on third down.

WAS-MIN: Halftime Summations

Posted by Andrew Walker on October 14, 2012 – 5:41 pm

The second quarter of today’s game between the Washington Redskins and the Minnesota Vikings continued a kicker’s theme, as Redskins kicker Kai Forbath converted his first-career attempt — a 50-yarder — not long into the period, and represented the fourth made field goal in four tries for both teams’ kickers.

But the Redskins’ offense and defense found their rhythm halfway through the second quarter, and at halftime, they lead the Vikings, 17-9.

WAS-MIN: First Quarter Recollections

Posted by Andrew Walker on October 14, 2012 – 4:53 pm

It certainly isn’t the start they wanted to snap their eight-game home losing streak.

The Washington Redskins (2-3) were outgunned in the first quarter of action of today’s game against the NFC North-leading Minnesota Vikings (4-1), who needed just 3:29 to put their first score — a field goal — up on the board. The Redskins’ first drive, meanwhile, went nowhere, and was over seemingly right as it started.

But as long as the Redskins’ defense keeps holding the Vikings’ offense to field goals, the Redskins’ offense can play catch-up the rest of the way.

After the first quarter, the Redskins trail the Vikings, 9-0.
