Haslett: Work Atmosphere Is ‘Awesome’

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on February 17, 2014 – 11:52 am

The buzz began to build at Redskins Park since Jay Gruden’s first day as head coach  back in January.

In a little more than a month, Gruden has finalized his staff and breathed life into a building bogged down by a 3-13 season.

In an appearance with Larry Michael on “Redskins Nation,” Defensive Coordinator Jim Haslett said the last two months of the 2013 season were probably the worst he’s had in three and half decades playing and coaching pro football, but the atmosphere has already shifted under the new regime.

“A couple players came in the other day. They said they could feel it,” Haslett told MichaelRead more »

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on February 14, 2014 – 3:11 pm

You never know who you’ll meet at the Super Bowl.

While making the media rounds at Super Bowl XLVIII, “Redskins Nation” host and Voice of the Redskins Larry Michael ran into a 5-foot-10, 170-pound Canadian who happens to be one of the most dangerous men on the planet.

After vacating the UFC Welterweight title he defended against Johny Hendricks at UFC 167, Georges St-Pierre was enjoying his free time in New York.

Michael asked when fighting fans can expect to see him back in the Octagon.

“I don’t know yet,” he said. “I’m sure you’ll hear about me soon. We’ll see.” Read more »

Sean McVay: There Are ‘A Lot Of Good Things To Build On’

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on January 17, 2014 – 11:13 am

Sean McVay appeared on “Redskins Nation” with Larry Michael on Thursday and assured viewers Washington’s offense wouldn’t ignore the elements that made it a top-10 unit during the past two years.

The 27-year old offensive coordinator said he and Jay Gruden would collaborate to meld facets of the foundation the Redskins built on offense since Robert Griffin III arrived in 2012 with components of Gruden’s scheme from Cincinnati.

“What makes Jay great as a coach is, he’s never going to be the type of guy that’s going to say, ‘Hey this is my offense, and you’re going to fit into it.’ He’s going to find what our players do best,” McVay told Michael.

“With the things we were able to do the last two years offensively, there will be a lot of that stuff.” Read more »

Fans Rally Around Redskins In Dallas!

Posted by Brian Tinsman on October 13, 2013 – 12:58 am

Outside of the greater DMV area, one of the strongest hotbeds of Washington Redskins support has always come from deep in the heart of Texas.

That may come as a surprise to fans outside of the Lonestar State–what with the Dallas Cowboys and all–but the Burgundy and Gold Fan Club of Dallas, Texas has a great following and throws some of the best Redskins rallies worth looking forward to every year.

This year’s event was scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., but the Redskins setup team (including your’s truly) was greeted at the door by dozens of fans when they arrived at quarter to 5. By 5:15 there was a steady stream of fans through the free T-shirt line, and by 5:30 it was downright crowded in the bar area.

By the time the Redskins celebrities arrived at 6 p.m., the fans had already maxed out capacity of the restaurant and the 400 free “Live It” T-shirts at the door were long-gone. Gazing outside, there was a line of Redskins fans waiting patiently on the sidewalk to get into the bar.

That’s when the real fun began, as Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder, accompanied by his wife Tanya Snyder, came to the party, joined by general manager Bruce Allen, former players Chris Cooley and Rick ‘Doc’ Walker, and voice of the Redskins, Larry Michael.

A good time was had by all, and here’s a social recap of the night’s festivities:

You might be asking yourself, is this guy luring us to a football blog with puppies? Yes. Yes I am.

Look at that face. You can thank long snapper Nick Sundberg, his love for animals and his iron stomach for that photo to power you through the work week.

Last Sunday, during the bye week, Sundberg attended the WOOFSTOCK pet festival in Ashburn with Josh Morgan and Larry Michael in support of community animal shelters.

There he found Pistachio, a beagle pug mix.

RG3 ‘Happy But Not Satisfied’ With 2012

Four months removed from the Redskins first NFC East title since 1999, quarterback Robert Griffin III still isn’t satisfied with the way his debut season came to an end.

Yes to an extent as he was truly honored for being voted the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year over fellow 2012 NFL Draft colleagues Andrew Luck, Russell Wilson and Alfred Morris.

He also certainly will not complain about winning a division crown and leading the Burgundy and Gold back to the playoffs, but in the end No. 10 never set his end goals on a division crown.

He set his sights directly on hoisting the Lombardi Trophy at Super Bowl XLVII.

No. 10 sat down with Larry Michael for the ninth installment of “10 Days With No. 10” on Redskins Nation to speak about:

–Winning AP Offensive Rookie of the Year.

–The team’s first round playoff exit.

–On how his life has changed since being on stage with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell last spring.
