Kevin Durant Receives Game Ball From Dan Snyder

Posted by Andrew Walker on September 18, 2014 – 7:30 pm

Washington Redskins mega fan and NBA All Star Kevin Durant on Thursday showed off the game ball he received from Redskins owner Dan Snyder.

Durant was in attendance at last Sunday’s game to see the Redskins dominate in all facets of their 41-10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2014 FedExField opener.

At halftime, Durant spoke with Redskins.com about his offseason, as well as his thoughts about the Redskins this year:

Why, Kevin Durant? WHY?

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on January 29, 2014 – 11:00 am

Please step away from the quarterback, Kevin.

I understand you want to support of any fan who attends a Thunder game, but we can’t have your mojo rubbing off on Tony Romo.

The biggest Redskins fan in the NBA posed for a picture with the Cowboys quarterback after defeating the Atlanta Hawks with a 12-foot dagger he drained 1.5 seconds before the final buzzer. As of Wednesday, Durant leads the NBA with 31.3 points per game. He’s topped 30 points in the last 11 games he played and scored at least 40 five times in January alone.

Durant is not fond of the “Slim Reaper” moniker, but maybe his touch will have a deathly effect on Romo’s late-game heroics against the Redskins. We still love you, Kevin.

Jim Thorpe

November is Native American Heritage month. Throughout the month, we’ll look at some stories of interest.

jim_thorpe_na_gamesOn Nov. 1 we shared an image of Jim Thorpe  with Lone Star Dietz and Leo Disend. The legend of Thorpe still lives at the annual Jim Thorpe Native American Games.

The 2014 games will take place in Oklahoma City and Shawnee, OK from June 8-14. The event features 11 sports, including basketball and an all-star football game.

Durant Vs. James Extends To Gridiron

Just as Robert Griffin III and Peyton Manning do now, LeBron James and Kevin Durant will dominate top storylines on ESPN shortly after the NFL season ends. You can try to hide, but it’ll be impossible especially with First Take’s obsession with No. 6.

James, a two-time NBA Champion, four-time MVP and Olympic gold medalist, and Durant, a four-time All-Star and three-time NBA scoring champion, have as close as it gets to a modern day Magic vs. Bird rivalry.

Unlike Magic, who’s stayed close to his professional home with his acquisition of the still alive Los Angeles Dodgers, and Larry Bird, returning to his native Indiana to give back to the state that stood by him since day one, James isn’t exactly one to stick to his home as we all know.

Growing up in Akron, Ohio, you’d assume he’d stick with the Cleveland Browns. But that’d be too easy.

Kevin Durant Welcomes Back Chris Cooley

Posted by Andrew Walker on October 23, 2012 – 12:36 pm

Washington Redskins fans are ecstatic about the return of tight end Chris Cooley, who re-signed with the team Monday after starting tight end Fred Davis suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in last Sunday’s loss to the New York Giants.

Cooley, 30, is the franchise’s all-time leader in receptions by a tight end, and has become one of the more popular players in Redskins history since joining the team as a third-round selection in the 2004 NFL Draft.

So it’s no surprise at all that Cooley’s jersey is one of the Redskins’ best sellers.

Well, one particularly famous Redskins fan put on his own Cooley jersey and went to his Instagram account to welcome Captain Chaos back to his favorite team.

Do The Redskins Have A New Fan?

Posted by Andrew Walker on July 26, 2012 – 1:29 pm

Sure, it’s always funny to take photos of those sleeping nearby, but in doing so, Minnesota Timberwolves star Kevin Love might’ve uncovered a budding Washington Redskins fan.

Love tweeted the photo above early this morning, meant more as a joke to his Team USA men’s basketball teammates.

Durant, LeBron Show Love For Redskins

Posted by Andrew Walker on July 16, 2012 – 4:58 pm

Given that they’re in town today for their exhibition contest against Brazil, it’s no surprise that U.S. Olympic Men’s Basketball teammates Kevin Durant and LeBron James are fielding questions about the D.C. sports scene.

But the questions are especially familiar for Durant, who was born in D.C. and has been one of the more visible Washington Redskins fans in recent years.

What If Durant Played For The Redskins?

Posted by Brian Tinsman on November 3, 2011 – 2:35 pm

Day Two of trying to make Kevin Durant a serious football player:

Yesterday, I asked you, the people of Redskins Nation, to step into the loafers of general manager Bruce Allen, and decide whether or not you would bring in NBA star, Maryland Native, and noted Redskins fan Kevin Durant.

To the tune of 81 percent, you said “Yes!”

Today, the fine folks at Panini America (via SBNation’s Mike Prada) imagined what it would look like to have “Trey5” in a Redskins uniform.  Via “The Knight’s Lance,” official blog of Panini America:

Durant’s dominating performance on the gridiron immediately got us here at Panini Americadreaming about the endless football card possibilities of such a dreamy vocational relocation. So seeing as how Durant is one of our exclusive athletes (and since the Redskins could obviously use the offensive help), we dispatched an all-star team of creative experts to concoct two fantasy football cards.

And here is the result: Read more »

Kevin Durant: NBA Star, Football Stud?

Posted by Brian Tinsman on November 2, 2011 – 12:25 pm

The key to every successful team is playmakers.  When a team loses playmakers, it suffers.  When a team needs playmakers, it goes out and gets them.  That’s exactly what this flag football player-coach did in Oklahoma:

If I played for the other team, I would’ve driven past the field…and kept on driving.  And returned with Dwight Howard.
