Dexter Manley, Gary Clark, Ken Harvey and Ricky Ervins certainly gave it their all each and every time they took the field for the Washington Redskins, so they were more than happy to spend some time on Saturday with hundreds of locals willing to give something, themselves.

The four Redskins alums were special guests at Saturday’s Inova Blood Donor Service’s blood drive at the team’s indoor practice facility in Loudoun County, Va.

Those who came out to give blood on Saturday were treated to photos, autographs and smiling faces from the former players, who talked about the importance of such an event.

“Donating blood is something that you don’t think about until you need it and sometimes you don’t realize how valuable it is until you need it,” Harvey told Redskins.com. “Hopefully no one does, but if you do, these people are real heroes because they’re taking the time to donate blood.”

You can read more about the event by clicking here — which includes a full photo gallery — but here’s a social media recap from the @Redskins accounts:

VIDEO: Ken Harvey Sized Redskins Rally

Three weeks in and the city of Richmond still can’t get enough of the Redskins. The players have admitted that their passion has really motivated them through the dog cooler days of summer.

Not only have they packed the Bon Secours Training Center time and time again, but their loyalty has taken West Broad Street and beyond by storm as local businesses and restaurants have welcomed the team through tasty sandwiches named after them and signs telling them to enjoy the stay.

Just a short drive down West Broad at The Westin, the Redskins held their third and final Redskins Rally of training camp 2013 last night.

While Larry Michael, Voice of the Washington Redskins, and Redskins cheerleaders were there to give away tickets and signed merchandise as always, 80 Greatest Redskin Ken Harvey was also on hand and gave an awesome speech that will surely get your burgundy and gold blood pumping.

You might want to buckle up that office chair seatbelt—you’ll thank me for the PSA after.

Ken Harvey Back On ‘Bertie & Guy’

Posted by Andrew Walker on October 18, 2012 – 7:53 am

Linebacker Ken Harvey appeared in four straight Pro Bowls for the Redskins from 1994 to 1997, and he certainly knows a thing or two about getting to the quarterback.

His 13.5 sacks in 1994 made him the first Redskins player to lead the NFC in that defensive statistic, and he finished with 89 career sacks. Harvey — ranked as one of the 80 Greatest Redskins of All-Time — was also tasked with covering some of the greatest tight ends of his era.

Harvey recently talked about the current Redskins’ defense and how challenging it really is to cover a talented tight end on ESPN SportsTalk 570’s “Tailgating With Bertie & Guy:”

Ken Harvey expertise during his great playing career was in one main area: getting to the quarterback.

Harvey — voted as one of the greatest Redskins of all-time — was recently a guest on SportsTalk 570′s “Tailgating With Bertie And Guy,” and talked about that very subject.

The former great Washington linebacker said that as a defense, you break down aspects of your game in layers to truly become dominant:

Anniversary Uniforms: 1994 Version

Posted by Andrew Walker on May 14, 2012 – 3:34 pm

When the Redskins take the field this season for two games wearing their 80th Anniversary Uniforms, it actually won’t be the first time a version of that uniform has been worn in recent memory.

The team also wore a version of the same uniforms Sept. 25, 1994, in a home game vs. the Atlanta Falcons at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, and we’ve dug up photos from that day. Read more »

Ken Harvey To Announce Third Round Pick

Posted by Brian Tinsman on April 24, 2012 – 11:57 am

The NFL has announced that, for the second consecutive year, retired players will announce each team’s second round picks in the draft.  The honor of calling the designated Redskins pick** is four-time Pro Bowl linebacker Ken Harvey.

Harvey played 11 years in the league, and his last five with the Redskins.  His breakout season in 1994 had him second in the NFL with 13.5 sacks, and he finished with a total of 41.5 during his time in Washington.  He was elected All Pro in each of the three seasons from 1994-96. Read more »

Gary Clark And Ken Harvey Shoot Baskets To Fight Brain Tumors

Posted by Matt Terl on May 20, 2010 – 1:25 pm

When Justin Friedlander, a thirteen year-old Redskins fan from Maryland, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, he decided to do something to raise money for brain tumor research. The “something” he chose was shooting baskets. Quite a lot of them, in fact: 63,000, one for every person diagnosed with a primary brain tumor every year in the United States.

Since 63,000 baskets is a lot even for the most determined person, Justin made a request. “I plan on asking friends, family, athletes, rock stars, politicians and even the president to shoot a basket with me.” he said, according to his website. “If you can shoot a basket, come shoot with me.”

Last Tuesday, Redskins greats Gary Clark and Ken Harvey took him up on the offer, as did University of Maryland basketball standout (and 2010 ACC Player of the Year) Greivis Vasquez.
