Combine Look Back: The Class Of 2012

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on February 21, 2014 – 1:42 pm

Although 40-yard dashes, broad jumps and bench press reps don’t really give us an idea of a prospect’s viability as a football player, the physical tests can give a glimpse at a man’s raw athletic potential and ability to thrive in a competitive atmosphere. Over the course of the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine, the Redskins blog will take a look back at how Washington’s past three draft classes fared in Indianapolis.

Redskins–We Have A Bobsled Team

If you saw rather large men running down the streets with a bobsled this weekend in matching uniforms it may or may not have been the Washington Redskins. After all I’ve heard summer is the best time to practice for the Winter Olympics.

Sure it felt more like the middle of July than September, but as Derice, Sanka, Junior and Yul taught everyone in the mid 90’s, it doesn’t matter how high the mercury rises on the thermometer as long as you have your team.

So as the rest of the team wore various (and somewhat hideous) Hawaiian shirts to an island themed party, Josh LeRibeus, Adam Gettis, Kirk Cousins, Ryan Kerrigan and Tom Compton found some extremely large spandex body suits and paid homage to Cool Runnings.  Mon trust me when I say you’ll never see a pushcart team like this anywhere else.

Guards LeRibeus, Gettis Wait Their Turns

The Redskins’ quarterback play was not exactly spectacular in 2011, but Rex Grossman and John Beck didn’t receive much help from their offensive line.

Injuries–coupled with a high-profile suspension–exposed a severe lack of quality depth. Offensive line coach Chris Foerster was forced to shuffle the lineup more than a half-dozen times that season.

It thus made perfect sense for Mike Shanahan to select two versatile offensive lineman in the 2012 draft. Enter guards Josh LeRibeus (SMU, 3rd round) and Adam Gettis (Iowa, 5th round), who would ostensibly crack the Redskins starting lineup sooner rather than later.

But a funny thing happened on the way to the stadium. Read more »

Redskins Social Media Weekly Spotlight

Posted by Jared Ross on July 1, 2013 – 3:00 pm

As we wait for football to start back up, in what I like to call the offseason’s halftime, or the time between Organized Team Activities and training camp, the players are enjoying their time away from the football field.

Thankfully, with calendar’s flipping over to the month of July, we can gladly say that football is back this month!

Last week’s installment of our Social Media Spotlight series covered Josh Morgan’s fluffy new workout partner, a young Chris Baker, another chapter in the life of Mr. Outdoorsman (Reed Doughty) and more. If you did not get a chance to read last week’s Social Media Spotlight, check it out here.

In this week’s edition we follow players through different continents, their quests for treasure and more.

Today, we will discuss defensive lineman Adam Carriker’s treasure-seeking dog, offensive lineman Nick Sundberg’s travels through Europe, wide receiver Aldrick Robinson’s dedication to his community, offensive lineman Chris Chester’s thoughts on the offseason and offensive lineman Josh LeRibus’ trip to a Goo Goo Dolls concert.

Combine Is Key For Redskins Scouts

Posted by Chris Herting on February 19, 2013 – 3:19 pm

Redskins Director of Player Personnel Scott Campbell is entering his 27th NFL season and his 13th with the Washington Redskins. Campbell originally joined the Redskins staff in 2001 as Director of College Scouting and in 2008 he was promoted to his current role as Director of Player Personnel.

As son of Marion Campbell, former head coach for the Atlanta Falcons and the defensive coordinator for the NFC Champion Philadelphia Eagles (1980), Scott’s NFL background is an extensive one to say the least, serving in numerous roles throughout his tenure in the league.

Fans sometimes look at the NFL season within the microscope of a five month season and yearly April draft. However, for Scott Campbell and the other team scouts, championships are won and/or lost in the time spent off of the gridiron. Read more »

Aggressive LeRibeus Signs With Redskins

Posted by Andrew Walker on July 18, 2012 – 3:23 pm

Washington Redskins’ rookie guard/center Josh LeRibeus on Wednesday became the final rookie to sign his contract with the team, just hours after first-round pick and quarterback Robert Griffin III inked his deal.

If you’ve been following LeRibeus since he was drafted by the Redskins with the 71st overall selection in April’s NFL Draft, you know he’s a colorful character (in a good way) and seems to be a lot of fun to be around.

LeRibeus Talks No School, Seafood

Posted by Andrew Walker on July 17, 2012 – 10:56 am

If you’ve never heard an interview with Redskins’ rookie guard/center Josh LeRibeus, you’re really missing out.

Well, here’s your chance.

LeRibeus — who once referred to his weight loss as losing “a toddler off the side of my belly” — spoke on Friday with Holden and Danny on 106.7 The Fan.

Josh LeRibeus, His Mom, And Twitter

Posted by Brian Tinsman on May 2, 2012 – 10:51 am

Redskins third-round pick (71st overall) pick Josh LeRibeus proved in his introductory conference call that he’s quite a character.

Among other frank descriptions, he likened losing 70 pounds in college to losing “a toddler off the side of my belly.”  That’s a huge toddler.

But as proud as LeRibeus is to join the Redskins, no one in the world is prouder than his mother, Debbie.  Josh is a bit of an amateur on Twitter (@JLeRibeus), but Debbie already has close to 32,000 tweets to her credit.  Among them, were some shout-outs to the welcome from Redskins Nation, as well as photos of Josh on draft night.

Sadly, no audio of this phone call exists, but here’s a picture of Josh on the couch at home, accepting the happy news from the Redskins’ coaching staff: Read more »
