QBs Embracing Healthy Competition

Posted by Andrew Walker on June 1, 2012 – 11:07 am

“Healthy competition” is a phrase often thrown around in sports, but it’s definitely something being embraced by the Redskins’ four quarterbacks through organized team activities this season.

Quarterback Jonathan Crompton — in his second season with the Redskins and third overall in the NFL — said all four Redskins quarterbacks have the same goal of competing for a starting job this season, but aren’t letting that get in the way of improving as a unit.

November is a month dominated by football, Thanksgiving, and the growth of beards and mustaches for a good cause.

Call it what you want: Movember, No-Shave-November; but it’s a good opportunity for Redskins players to put down the razors and show what they can grow.

Over the course of the month, the players that showed the most effort were receiver Niles Paul, offensive lineman Eric Olsen, and quarterback Jonathan Crompton.

Others tried, but it wasn’t meant to be.

Naturally, the two best beards on the team are linebacker Perry Riley and nose tackle Chris Neild.  As Neild is clearly the Grand Beard Master, I turned to him for a December 1st Facial Hair Recap.

After finishing up practice and serving the community, players attended to their own holiday plans yesterday, and shared them with the Redskins Twitterverse.

As gametime approaches, here are some last minute observations:

  • Long snapper Nick Sundberg can out-punt practice squad quarterback Jonathan Crompton, with kicks of approximately 48 and 42 yards, respectively.
  • Actual punter, Sav Rocca, was greeted warmly by his former Eagles long snapper, Jon Dorenbos.
  • The Redskins cheerleaders are rocking the white uniforms today with the pink pom-poms.

The players have officially tweeted the last word before pregame, and their focus is reverberating throughout all the Twitterverse: Read more »

Thursday Practice Notes

Posted by Brian Tinsman on September 15, 2011 – 1:08 pm

And so the gray, overcast months of every-season-except-summer-in-the-mid-Atlantic have begun today in Ashburn.  After yesterday’s upper-80’s, this afternoon featured low-70’s, and a increased usage of burgundy sweat pants.

The team continues to use the seldom-used back-left field, as it was punished the last by the recent torrential downpours.  The typical practice fields over to the right of the back entrance to the facility seem to be drying out nicely and “healing.”

Here are the quarterbacks warming up before practice:
