Denny Hamlin Wins One Week After Telling Redskins Fandom Story, Meeting RGIII

On Sunday, Washington Redskins fan and Joe Gibbs Racing’s own, Denny Hamlin, took home his first victory of the season at Talladega Superspeedway.

Staving off a furious rush by several drivers as the checkered flag drew near, Hamlin crossed the finish line first and celebrated his victory on the tri-oval with the thee-time Super Bowl winning coach in Victory Lane.

Just eight days before assuring himself a spot in NASCAR’s postseason, Hamlin got the chance to meet current Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III.

It wasn’t the first time, however, that he got to snap a photo with a Redskin.

About a month ago Robert Griffin III told Dale Earnhardt Jr. and President of Richmond International Raceway Dennis Bickmeier he was game to drive the pace car for a NASCAR event.

On Wednesday the track announced it would take the Redskins quarterback at his word. Read more »

Joe Gibbs: ‘Grind Them Into The Ground’

The winningest coach in Redskins history will be watching the Cowboys game from the owner’s suite on Sunday.

Pro Football Hall of Famer Joe Gibbs directed Washington to three Super Bowl championships and was named NFL Coach of the Year three times. In 16 years as head coach of the Redskins, covering two stints from 1981-1992 and 2004-2007, Gibbs had a 154-94 record and posted a .500 record (16-16) against Dallas.

I caught up with Gibbs at FedExField about 80 minutes before kickoff against the Cowboys.  Read more »
