A New Decoration In The Redskins Park Lobby

Posted by Matt Terl on June 8, 2011 – 11:24 am

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything about the interior decorating in Redskins Park, but the new image that was hung on the wall yesterday is definitely worthy of note. (Click to enlarge.)

That’s the group of Redskins alumni gathered in the end zone of FedExField prior to the “Homecoming game” against the Colts from last October, and there’s a bunch of things to like about the photo.

  • The assortment of guys, plain and simple. It really runs the gamut, from Ted Vactor to Larry Brown to Pat Fischer, to Charley Taylor to Bubba Tyer to Doug Williams to Darnerian McCants, with plenty of guys in between. And they all look happy.
  • Also looking happy? Bruce Allen, the architect of the day, off to the right there.
  • It looks terrific in the lobby in its glossy frame (apparently by CSD Sports Framing), and it does a great job of being ABOUT the team’s sepia-toned history while still being OF the full-color present day.
  • I like this plaque at the bottom, also, because I’m a sucker for Deco-style fonts.

But my absolute favorite thing about the picture is kind of tough to spot. Read more »

Friday, March 12: Inside The Revamped Weight Room

Posted by Matt Terl on March 12, 2010 – 1:16 pm

The Redskins voluntary offseason conditioning program begins on Monday, which means that a whole bunch of football players — all of them, if new head coach Mike Shanahan gets his wish — will be cycling through the weight room. For some players, it’ll just be another weight room, worse than some and better than others.

But Redskins veterans, guys who are returning to the Redskins Park for the first time since last season ended … well, they’re going to find a dramatically different experience.

Inside Redskins Broadcast Network: Redskins Late Night Explained

Posted by Matt Terl on September 15, 2009 – 4:04 pm

If it’s Tuesday, it means that I’m heading out to the taping of Redskins Late Night at the Gordon Biersch restaurant in Tysons Corner. Tonight’s guest is Rocky McIntosh, and anyone in the area should feel free to drop on by.

I’ve been mentioning this just about every week, but I’m beginning to gather that not everyone automatically knows exactly what I’m talking about. So I went to Megan Imbert, who’s producing the show for the Redskins Broadcast Network, and she gave me lots more specifics.

True to its name, Redskins Late Night airs late at night, specifcally on Saturdays — or, more accurately, early on Sunday mornings. Basically it’s at 1:30 a.m. on NBC-4, shortly after Saturday Night Live. And it’s a little different from most of the other RBN programming. Read more »

Thursday, April 30: Redskins Glamour Shots

Posted by Matt Terl on April 30, 2009 – 12:12 pm

Minicamp starts tomorrow, which means that there are a lot of players in the building today, greeting each other and teasing one another for how big (or small) they’ve gotten over the last three months and all that sort of first-day-of-school stuff.

There’s no football work today, but — like the first day of a new semester in college, when you do nothing but review the syllabus for each class, or the first day on a new job where you just learn where the copier and coffee machine are — there’s plenty of administrative stuff to get squared away. In fact, there’s enough of that to make today feel like the official start of the 2009 preseason. Read more »
