More than 120 students from nearby Sterling Middle School got a chance hang out with their favorite Washington Redskins players and get in a good workout Tuesday.

The Redskins played host to an NFL Play 60 Mini-Combine at their Ashburn, Va., facility, and took advantage of their new indoor training facility by taking things inside as rains and heavy winds moved over the area.

The event was a team effort between the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation, Commonwealth Orthopaedics, DePuy Mitek, Inc. and Safe Kids Worldwide.

The students were being trained with the help of nine Redskins players who were happy to participate on their day off Tuesday, including:

Friday’s Redskins Practice Video

Posted by Andrew Walker on September 7, 2012 – 12:33 pm

The Washington Redskins took practice back indoors Friday as they made their final preparations for their season opener Sunday against the New Orleans Saints.

The Redskins have enjoyed utilizing their indoor training facility this week to pump up loud crowd noises out of its speakers as the team tries to get used to the noise level expected Sunday at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Right after the video-shooting portion of practice ended, the crowd noise was turned on.

Yes, I can confirm reports that it was loud in there.

Anyway, here’s the video from Friday’s practice:

The Mercedes-Benz Superdome is expected to be even a little louder than usual when the Redskins travel there Sunday to take on the New Orleans Saints in both teams’ 2012 season openers.

In order to prepare for the noise, the Redskins coaching staff has had the team practice in the team’s indoor training facility this week and has been pumping crowd noise and music described at a “deafeningly-loud” level by at least one team member.

“It’s loud,” rookie guard Josh LeRibeus summarized Wednesday before practice. “It’s something else.”

Rainy Monday Brings First OTA Indoors

Posted by Andrew Walker on May 22, 2012 – 11:08 am

A steady, annoying drizzle was the weather theme at Redskins Park Monday morning, so head coach Mike Shanahan decided to bring the team’s first round of organized team activities inside.

It was the first time Shanahan has been afforded that luxury. The team’s brand new indoor training facility was just recently completed, and its purpose is ideal for days like Monday.

“Perfect timing, eh?” second-year outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan said after Monday’s activities. “This is what we built it for, for days like this when the weather’s not cooperative.”

The Washington Redskins opened up organized team activites for the 2012 season Monday at Redskins Park in Ashburn, Va.

The team’s first OTAs of 2012 also marked another first: The first time the Redskins’ indoor training facility was ever put to use for football activities.

Thunder Forces Redskins Practice Inside

One rookie practice in the books, and the Redskins’ brand new indoor practice facility has already been put to good use.

A little over an hour into this morning’s rookie mini-camp practice, a clap of thunder silenced the workouts on the field.  In years past, this would have signaled the end of practice, forcing players inside to wait out the storm.  This was both a consideration for the players and the video crew, which is elevated on giant lift machines around the field.

In essence, it’s impossible to shake off a little storm.  You can’t see it–it’s electric.

But today yielded the perfect opportunity to workout indoors, and the facility worked perfectly.  Players got to practice on the state-of-the-art turf field, and all Redskins employees were safe to do their jobs.

Larry Michael and the Redskins Nation crew got a sneak peak inside, to see the players doing non-contact workouts for the first time.  Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III looks just as smooth under the lights as under the sun: Read more »

Indoor Practice Facility Gets Tattoo, Pilates

Posted by Brian Tinsman on May 3, 2012 – 12:07 pm

The 2012 Redskins rookie class is beginning to trickle into the nation’s capital today, in anticipation of tomorrow’s first rookie mini-camp.  In anticipation of their arrival, the team put the finishing touches on the brand new practice bubble, posting the team name over the entrance.

While the team has used the bubble for voluntary workouts, the rookies will be the first group to use the bubble extensively.  The team’s nine drafted rookies, as well as undrafted college free agents will join roster tryouts designed to get the rookies up to speed.  The full list of undrafted free agent signings will be announced later this week, and Sunday’s final practice will be open to the media.

The rest of it is open exclusively to Redskins.comTV.

Big news coming out of this weekend will be Robert Griffin III’s first practice, rookie jersey numbers (we already know Griffin III will be No. 10), and how the new facilities feel to the players.  Stay tuned to Redskins.com and the blog for the most up-to-date, exclusive news on the rookie mini-camp.

And from yesterday afternoon, check out the Redskins Facebook exclusive video of the players doing Pilates as a team inside the new bubble: Read more »
