Redskins Stay Very Active In Community

Posted by Brian Tinsman on December 24, 2011 – 10:34 am

Our good friend Kevin Ewoldt of Hogs Haven compiled the complete list of holiday initiatives in the community by the Redskins team and players.  Many of the links on the page link back to stories on the Redskins Blog, but it’s worth a gander.

This is one of the more active NFL teams in the community, and even with the influx of new players, the community spirit has flourished.  The Redskins have a storied tradition of being active in the community that they represent, and it’s good to see that maintained.

Happy Holidays everyone!

The Recipients Of Redskins Holiday Cheer

Posted by Brian Tinsman on November 29, 2011 – 5:00 pm

As the holiday season has approached, we’ve spent a lot of time focused on the players contributions back to their communities, and how wonderful it is that they stay involved.

The part that’s often forgotten in these situations is the impact on the beneficiaries of the holiday cheer–especially the children.

These are a little past due, but they just passed my desk, and warranted being passed along to you.  The stories will melt even the Scrooge-iest of hears.

Tip of the cap to local television stations ABC-7 and NBC-4 for covering the impact of Redskins community outreach events, on those that receive. Read more »

Wednesday, December 2: Redskins Discuss Easy Bake Ovens

Posted by Matt Terl on December 2, 2009 – 10:52 am

One last bit from yesterday’s “Holiday Wishes Come True” event, hosted by Renaldo Wynn and his wife LaTanya (along with the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation, the Family of Faith foundation, and Target).

Even though the event was about giving tangible gifts to kids as we get into the meat of the holiday season, Wynn made absolutely certain to remind everyone what the real purpose of the event — and the holidays — is. “Whenever we’re given the opportunity,” he said, “that’s our goal as human beings: to serve others. And it’s just a great feelin’ when you come and you give yourself to someone else, I think that’s the greatest gift you can have.”

And he’s probably right about that. Still, though, the kids seemed really enthusiastic about the material gifts they were getting, too. Read more »

Thursday, December 25: Happy Holidays

Posted by Matt Terl on December 25, 2008 – 10:24 am

If there was an official Happy Holidays day, today would be as good a choice as any. It’s Christmas Day, tonight is the fifth night of Chanukah, Kwanzaa starts tomorrow, and we’re only four days past the solstice. Here, then, is the Redskins 2008 Season’s Greetings card, wishing everybody a pleasantly non-denominational holiday greeting.

Please enjoy whatever it is you enjoy at this time of year, and enjoy it with friends and/or family, as you’d prefer.

Back later with an update from practice and anything else that seems important from a quiet day at Redskins Park. Read more »

'Tis The Season At Redskins Park

Posted by Matt Terl on December 23, 2008 – 1:30 pm

Only two shopping days left until Christmas – and if you’ve been meaning to give Chanukah presents, now would be an excellent time to do so – and the folks at Redskins Park are getting into the spirit of things. Andre Carter was wrapping presents in the lobby, a Redskins-ornamented Christmas tree stands in front of the 70th anniversary team picture, and the training room has its own tree, complete with holiday CD collection.

Players are ducking in briefly before heading out to finish their holiday shopping. “One more gift left to buy,” said Pete Kendall. I asked if he had an easier time bulling through the crowds, given that he blocks for a living, and he shook his head. “I hate crowds, because I don’t try to plow through ’em. I always find myself–” and he mimed twisting and turning through a crowd.

I suggested that this made him more of a Barry Sanders type than a Jerome Bettis type, and he laughed. “I don’t know that I’d use that exact analogy,” he said, before leaving to take his daughter shopping.

If you’ve ever worked in an office, it’s pretty standard holiday workplace stuff. And every workplace has the Wacky Guy Who Gets Very Excited And Dressed Up For The Holidays; at Redskins Park, it’s Rocky McIntosh.
