VIDEO: The Hogettes Meet Rev. Redskin

In a recent conversation with retired Hogette Mikey T., the Boss Hogette told me that he was inspired by the Redskins’ revitalized fan base this season, and felt like he was leaving Redskins Nation in good hands.

One of the more enthusiastic pair of hands, ready to accept the burden of the Redskins’ 12th Man, is Rev. Redskin, the super fan that has been asking his fellow Redskins followers to “BELIEVE!” since training camp.

It turns out that the Hogettes, who recently announced their retirement from the super fan business, have passed the proverbial torch to Rev. Redskin, after meeting him outside the gates before the Redskins-Ravens game earlier this season.

The conversation was typically inspiring and entertaining…mostly entertaining on that particular afternoon. Have a little look for yourself: Read more »

Manley Grills The Hogettes (Circa 2010)

Former Redskins defensive end Dexter Manley knows how to bring the pressure, delivering 103.5 sacks during his illustrious 14-year career.

After his time in Washington, he spent time with the Phoenix Cardinals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and in the CFL, but Manley remains an icon of the Redskins’ glory years, and will be forever remembered in the burgundy and gold.

Several years ago, Manley had a side project called “Dexter’s Rush Hour,” a 30-minute show that took fans inside the world of football, and deeper inside the mind of the Secretary of Defense. The show didn’t last long, but did yield some gem interviews, including a sweet sit-down interview with some of the more influential members of the Hogettes.

It’s a quality Q&A, but is probably highlighted by the age-old Hogettes question: “What does your spouses and your grand-kids think about you wearing dresses?”

After 30 seasons of showing up to every  home game and becoming a fixture among the best fan base in the National Football League, the Washington Redskins Hogettes have announced that they will be hanging up their snouts and dresses for good.

It’s bittersweet news for the legendary Redskins fan group, which has officially retired and will no longer appear together. The good news? The Hogettes plan on continuing their tremendous work raising money for children’s charities.

The Hogettes released this official statement on their Website today:

Redskins Enjoy 3rd Annual ‘Ride 2 Provide’

Posted by Brian Tinsman on April 24, 2012 – 10:21 am

via @graceramirez

The forecast called for rain, but it was nothing but sun and smiles at Lorenzo Alexander’s “Ride 2 Provide” charity bike ride on Saturday.  Alexander and Kedric Golston hosted the event for the third year, and were joined by teammates Ryan Kerrigan, Niles Paul, Logan Paulsen, Rob Myers, as well as former Redskin Chris Wilson and the Hogettes.

And yes, Paulsen is shown wearing a light purple tutu.  No, I don’t know why–but I will find out.

The event raises money for wounded veterans recovering from their injuries, as well as Alexander’s ACES foundation.  Alexander was excited with the biker turnout, but really enjoyed the support of his teammates for his biggest annual event:

“It’s pretty cool to have your teammates out here supporting you,” Alexander said with a grin.  “A lot of guys have chosen to get involved and help me out, and it shows what type of men they are and what they’re all about.  The local media have created a great bond over the years, and those guys have come out to support me as well.

“It goes beyond football and the Redskins on a day-to-day basis,” he added.  “We’re about relationships and building a better community.”

Leftover From Dallas Week: Hogettes On Honking

Posted by Matt Terl on September 14, 2010 – 12:54 pm

Not sure how I missed this on Honk If You Hate Dallas Day last week, but it’s worth watching even now, if only for the visual of men in dresses and hog noses waving enormous signs at passing traffic. Some excellent video work by the Washington Post here.

Hogettes With Pins

Posted by Matt Terl on December 17, 2008 – 10:40 am

Have you ever wondered what the Hogettes keep in their purses? Neither had I.

In fact, I had never even thought about it, naively assuming that their purses were little more than props to help emphasize their femininity. At yesterday’s Toys For Tots event, I found out that I was sorely mistaken.

“This is my pin collection,” said Hogette Howiette (who had shown me his custom Hogette shoes and socks at a previous event), holding up his button-encrusted bag. “These over here” – he indicated the right side of the above picture – “are military, where these are police and law enforcement. I trade for them.” Read more »
