The Redskins’ Hall of Fame year continues. First it was Russ Grimm, in August of 2010. Next, offensive lineman Will Montgomery in March of 2011. In April, Chris Samuels. Now intern Brian Tinsman writes about ANOTHER new Redskins Hall of Famer — and it’s not an offensive lineman this time.
No, the headline is not a brash prediction for the Redskins’ 2011 sixth round draft pick to make the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. (But if it turns out to be true, then you heard it here first.)
Rather, this is in regards to Royster being inducted into the Westfield High School Athletics Hall of Fame. The Chantilly, Va. native was part of the 2011 class of inductions that was honored on Tuesday night.
officially in the westfield hs hall of fame as of tonite!—
Evan Royster (@evan_royster22) May 25, 2011
Royster put up massive numbers at Westfield, finishing his career with 750 rushes for 6,384 yards and 90 touchdowns. His senior year alone he rushed for 2,161 yards, and 30 touchdowns, earning him All-Metro and Virginia AAA Northern Region offensive player honors.
During his time at Westfield he also ran track and played lacrosse.
Royster assessed his strengths and weaknesses in high school via Scout.com, saying:
I run up the middle well. I’m a powerback, but have pretty good agility too. I feel I can pretty much run through or around anyone, but I still want to work on my breakaway speed. I also need to improve my cutting ability and move my feet better.
It’s not quite Canton, it’s but it’s a well-deserved honor. Congratulations, Evan! Read more »
