Garçon: Philanthropist, Social Media Mogul

Posted by Brian Tinsman on March 29, 2012 – 4:25 pm

It has come to my attention that new Redskins receiver Pierre Garçon has finally switched over the layout of his personal web page, PierreGarconLive.com, to reflect his new team colors.  The site is full of pictures, blogs, links to his foundation, and Haitian pride.

Garçon is of Haitian descent, and was instrumental in sending aid to his family’s island following the earthquakes in early 2010.  For those of you who might not remember, he played in the Super Bowl that year with a heavy heart, and dedicated it to “creating smiles in Haiti.” (via CBS):

A Brief Update On The Redskins And Diageo In Haiti

In the comments on the initial story about the Redskins and Diageo’s efforts to provide disaster relief in Haiti, commenter jeanfinne asked for updates, especially given the reports of relief planes that are being turned away.

As you can probably guess from the picture above, the update is favorable, relatively speaking: former Redskin Ken Harvey and the rest of the Diageo team landed in Haiti on Sunday evening using Redskins owner Daniel Snyder’s plane.

On Monday, they traveled to the University Hospital to see the donations at work, and spent that night camped out at the airport. And today Harvey was invited aboard the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier to thank the sailors and marines for their efforts; later today they’ll deliver medical kits to a trauma hospital and just generally make themselves useful until they depart late this evening.

Harvey will be interviewed via satellite on Redskins Nation this evening to discuss these efforts; you can see it at 6:00 and 10:30 on Comcast SportsNet. Read more »
