RGIII, Hall, Baker Welcome Back Orakpo

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on March 4, 2014 – 10:19 am

Although the franchise tag is not a guarantee Brian Orakpo will return to the Redskins in 2014, it grants the Redskins control of his rights and allows the team more time to negotiate a long-term deal should Washington want to move in that direction.

Orakpo has taken the move in stride.

“They did what they had to do,” he told the Washington Post. “I’m just kind of glad we can at least make a step moving forward instead of being at a stalemate with this whole situation.”

According to an NFL.com Around The League list and a USA Today article, outside linebacker Brian Orakpo is the No. 3 rated free agent in 2014. Bleacher Report rates Orakpo as the seventh-most appealing man on the market, and Rotoworld rates Rak as the top linebacker in this year’s class.

“He can probably thrive in any scheme having also shined as a defensive end in college for Texas. But 3-4 teams will probably value him most,” USA Today wrote.

Fred Davis, Lavonte David

On Monday, the Washington Redskins passed the 4 p.m. deadline without tagging any of their impending unrestricted free agents.

Soon-to-be free agent tight end Fred Davis, the 2012 Redskins franchise tag recipient, was one of several players that could have been given the 2013 franchise tag.

While the prestigious franchise has one of the best records in league history on the field, find out why success with franchised tagged players is a rarity in Washington.
