Morris: ‘Waiver Wire Pickup Of The Year’
Posted by on December 26, 2012 – 9:57 amAlfred Morris has completely squashed any talks about “Shanahanigans.”
The term refers to head coach Mike Shanahan and offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan‘s use of multiple running backs compared to a single, premier back handling most of the team’s carries in recent seasons.
Instead, Morris has been the latter in 2012. He’s turned in the best rushing campaign ever by a Redskins rookie; and, with 104 yards Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, he’ll break Clinton Portis‘ Redskins single-season record for rushing yards in a season (1,516).
That performance — combined with his 10 touchdowns — has obviously made Morris one of the most popular fantasy players in the league.
For his efforts, Morris was recently voted as the NFL Network’s “NFL Fantasy Live Waiver Wire Pickup Of The Year,” beating out Green Bay Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb and Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts III.
Morris made an appearance on this show this week to talk about the award (see below), but here’s a few snippets from his conversation:

OK, well there is no such thing. But Griffin III and his expanding acting skills were utilized in a recent series of videos for Lenovo in which the rookie quarterback is thrown through a variety of wacky football bits.
The video above features Griffin III working with Nate on various ways he could improve his fantasy points each week. The suggestions include:

Players Analyze Their Own Fantasy Value
Posted by on October 13, 2011 – 6:10 pmBoth Anthony Armstrong and Tim Hightower have been banged up in recent weeks, hurting their value on offense.
But for the loyal members of Redskins Nation that drafted each player to their fantasy football teams, their injuries hurt doubly.
Armstrong was asked during his weekly locker room address, if fantasy owners would be wise to give him the start.
“If I was on my own fantasy team, hell yeah I’d start me!” he said. ”Why wouldn’t you start yourself?”
Fair point.
Hightower later discussed his topsy-turvy fantasy value under Shanahan’s three-back system, with the folks at the NFL Network’s Fantasy Live. As a non-football-fantasizer, Hightower wasn’t aware of how much people care about an individual’s stats.
“It’s almost as if people, y’know, they really could care less about wins and losses, they need more fantasy points,” he said, shaking his head. ”You could have a horrible game and lose by 30 points but score you 2 or 3 touchdowns and rush for 100 yards, you just made their day.”
Hightower has let it be known that he’s a team-first guy who just wants to win. He enjoys interacting with fans, but it can get a little out of hand too. Read more »

Tuesday, December 15: Quinton Ganther, Folk Hero
Posted by on December 15, 2009 – 9:32 am
I was sitting in my hotel room in Palo Alto Sunday morning, deeply perplexed by what the the time change had done to the TV schedule (“Wait, it’s 7:00, why are they showing actual football stuff instead of pointless hunting shows?!?”) when Matthew Berry, ESPN’s Talented Mister Roto, appeared and started yammering about new Redskins starter Quinton Ganther as one of his sleepers of the week.
I don’t often take fantasy football advice from people on the TV, because I’m perfectly capable of failing catastrophically all on my own, thanks, but apparently that feeling puts me in the minority. Because at some point in the last few days, between Ganther being pitched as a sleeper and Ganther racking up 93 total yards and two touchdowns on Sunday, he’s become the Chuck Norris of the ESPN Fantasy Football message boards.
