It’s the news of the day. Brian Orakpo, London Fletcher

Veteran linebacker London Fletcher walked into the media room deep inside Redskins Park after practice, grabbed the team logoed microphone and announced that he’s 99 percent certain Week 17 will be the last time he dons an NFL jersey with shoulder pads underneath.

Soon after, teammates ranging from fellow old-timer Santana Moss to rookies nearly half his age began reflecting on their time with and under the grizzled four-time Pro Bowler.

Sometimes those of us on the outside forget how much time players spend with one another. The countless hours together often breeds unbreakable bonds that last a lifetime.

Fellow linebacker mates scratched the surface of what Fletcher’s presence has meant to their professional careers shortly after the announcement spread through the Internet:

London Fletcher converses with veteran Kedric Golston

Before he took the podium at Redskins Park and announced he was “99 percent” sure he would retire at the end of the 2013 season, 16-year veteran London Fletcher participated in an indoor practice.

The linebacker cracked jokes with Darryl Tapp during stretching and had a conversation with Kedric Golston while the special teams units drilled.

Here are your Wednesday practice snapshots. Read more »

Darryl Tapp 49ers Analysis, Talks Family

The last time Darryl Tapp took the field at FedExField on a Monday night he was staring down an offensive line he’d beaten multiple times in practice before with a fire-breathing mentality that even made the referees stand their distance.

Okay so if you’ve ever met Darryl in person or seen one of his interviews you’d never think he spends a living terrorizing quarterbacks and slamming running backs into frozen tundras. He’s too stinkin’ nice.

…And if you haven’t now is your chance to see just how great of a guy he is and you’ll get a little sneak peek into what his daily routines are to include his thoughts on the cold tub—even in this weather. You crazy, man.

Anyway, here’s Tapp’s appearance on Redskins Late Night with Chris Paul:

#TBT: Darryl Tapp Had Sweet Rec Specs

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on November 14, 2013 – 6:00 pm

Darryl Tapp

At Deep Creek High School in Chesapeake, Va., linebacker Darryl Tapp racked up 22 career sacks, earned first-team all-Group AAA honors as a senior and was rated the No. 2 defensive lineman in the Atlantic Region by PrepStar.

As my colleague Stephen Czarda noted, he also had fine taste in eye-wear.

Check out the retro high school photo put out by the Virginia Pilot on Thursday.

Darryl Tapp Has A Message For U

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on November 11, 2013 – 12:31 pm

Tapp1

Darryl Tapp has a message for Miami Hurricanes fans, including his neighbor in the locker to his left.

Leonard Hankerson wasn’t around to see it, but Tapp, a proud Virginia Tech alumnus, sported a spirited maroon T-shirt on Monday in honor of the Hokies’ 42-24 victory over the Hurricanes during the weekend.

Check it out below.

Redskins Halloween Social Roundup

While you were double-fisting candy and escorting your own group of witches, vampires or comic book super heroes last night, the Redskins could relate.

Kory Lichtensteiger and his wife, Mandi, had their hands full

Darryl Tapp ‘Quickly Jumped’ At Redskins

In a statement that doesn’t need any sort of letter grade added to it or a clarifying backstory, the Washington Redskins have one of the best linebacking corps in the National Football League.

While it might start at the top with the sage veteran in London Fletcher and returning Pro Bowler Brian Orakpo, it isn’t just the starting four linebackers that assemble such a talented group. As Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys know best with Rob Jackson, the burgundy and gold have talent across the board in the center of Jim Haslett’s 3-4 defensive scheme.

Jackson, Nick Barnett, Brandon Jenkins and Darryl Tapp form a quartet that sounds more like a starting four than backups, but that’s the kind of good problems the Redskins currently face.

For Tapp, Monday’s game serves more than just a Redskins debut for the eight-year veteran. It’s his first game against his employer of three years.

Darryl Tapp Repped Redskins At Youth

With two weeks since the conclusion of another successful minicamp and still a little less than four weeks until the start of training camp in Virginia’s capital, news can be hard to come by sometimes.

Sure, there have been season review lists such as NFL.com’s top 100 plays from 2012 (still no appearance from Robert Griffin III’s 76-yard touchdown run, but I just saw that the top-ten will be unveiled the week Of July 22nd so stay tuned) and countless fantasy football position breakdowns and previews, but everyone wants to know what the players are up to right now.

Well, with the blessing of social media, we have a chance to see what each Redskin is up to on a daily basis and I must say, what I found from Darryl Tapp’s Instagram account is a must see.

Check out what the linebacker had in store for this week’s version of Throwback Thursday below.

Outside Linebacker Trio In Upper Echlon

The following is a Public Service Announcement for Redskins Nation.

After missing the majority of the 2012 season outside linebacker Brian Orakpo is back, full healthy and ready to scare NFL quarterbacks once again.

Isn’t that music to the ears?

After suffering a season-ending pectoral injury in Week 2 against the St. Louis Rams last year, No. 98 is prepared to fight for a division crown on the field this go around (with this menacing facemask) instead of being the Burgundy and Gold’s number one sideline supporter.

While ‘Rak certainly still wishes that he could have added to his 29.5 career sacks during the team’s seven- game winning streak last year, he like the rest of us got to watch fellow bookend Ryan Kerrigan blossom into a Pro Bowler.

Now, the duo (known more affectionately Kerrakpo) along with free agent acquisition Darryl Tapp are consider a top-five outside linebacker unit.

Hall, Tapp To Reunite In Washington

Posted by Stephen Czarda on April 4, 2013 – 9:28 am

DeAngelo Hall

With official word that the Washington Redskins have resigned cornerback DeAngelo Hall, his teammates were excited to have him back to help defend the 2012 NFC East title.

Hall has been with the Burgundy and Gold since 2008 when the team signed him to a deal that November. In his five years in Washington, number 23 has appeared in 68 games, starting 64, and was selected to represent the NFC in the 2010 Pro Bowl.

While Hall will see familiar faces from his time in the DMV such as Josh Wilson, Reed Doughty and Robert Griffin III, there is one man who has seen the talented player grow since his high school days in Chesapeake, Virginia.
