New Field Excites Park View Athletes

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on April 22, 2014 – 1:09 pm

Sam Onyeador (left) thinks a new field will help the school’s athletic programs rise

The student athletes at Park View High School said their old multi-sport field isn’t bad, but it has its blemishes.

Sophomore Joy Hogarty said the grass in Sterling, Va., gets a little “choppy” at the beginning of girls’ soccer season. Freshman linebacker Nikolai Hopkins said rain completely changes the makeup of a football game. Sophomore Connor Hotaling said snow drove the football team into the gym for practices, which affected the Patriots’ conditioning.

These issues should subside by the end of 2015, when construction of a new synthetic, multi-sport field is scheduled to complete thanks to a $1,000,000 funding partnership between the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation, the NFL Grassroots Field Grant Program and the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors.

General Manager Bruce Allen: ‘It Is My Job To Find The Next Head Coach’

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on December 30, 2013 – 3:22 pm

Executive Vice President/General Manager Bruce Allen had a “painful” day he said was fitting for a “painful” season.

Allen met with Owner Daniel Snyder and Mike Shanahan at 9 a.m. Monday morning to relieve Shanahan of his duties to the franchise. The GM met with assistant coaches throughout the day, then addressed the media four hours after the dismissed coach made a statement.

Allen stressed that that every member of the organization had a part in a 3-13 season. He spoke to the media about how the franchise has begun its search for a new head coach, what the criteria for that position will be and what the club will learn from a regular season full of distractions.

He talked about how the world of sports lends itself to instant evaluation, how to create stability and how NFL teams can complete quick turnarounds.

Dan Snyder Gifts Jones Redskins Van

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on November 1, 2013 – 6:05 pm

Dan Snyder handed Charles Jones a $20,000 check, clapped him on the shoulder and gripped his hand.

When Snyder heard Jones’ story, how the 55-year old veteran escaped his life as a homeless man with help from his Redskins-themed 2001 Ford E150, the owner was moved to action.

On Friday afternoon, Snyder greeted Jones at Redskins Park in Ashburn, Va., to personally deliver payment for the van that would help Jones clear his debt. Then he told Jones, “the van is yours.”

“Your story really touched my heart,” Snyder said upon meeting Jones.

Check out the full rally gallery here. Or rallerly, if you prefer.

The rally in Dallas two weeks ago was the biggest Redskins road rally ever, setting a benchmark that would not soon be equaled.

But it only took two weeks to be exceeded.

Tonight in Denver, Colo., the Washington Redskins hosted the biggest road rally ever, welcoming more than 500 fans into The Tavern Downtown, and treating fans to another visit from Redskins owner Daniel M. Snyder and his wife Tanya. They were joined by general manager Bruce Allen, alum Chris Cooley, Rick ‘Doc’ Walker and Clarence Vaughn, as well as Larry Michael, voice of the Redskins.

It was a big night for Redskins Nation as the fight song was sung, stars were welcomed and solidarity was cemented with Redskins Pride. Here’s a full run down of the evening’s festivities, as seen on the Redskins’ social channels. Enjoy:
