Cut Day A Nerve-Racking Process For All

Whether veteran or rookie, “cut day” are two words you never want to hear.

That day is coming up quickly for the Washington Redskins — as in, by 9 p.m. Friday, the team must cut down its roster from 75 players to its final 53 men.

By noon on Saturday, an additional eight players are signed to the team’s practice squad.

Today is an off day for the Redskins players, who are fresh off their 30-3 preseason finale win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The coaching staff, however, is not taking the day off, and you can be sure that they’re meeting throughout the day today and tomorrow to make some difficult decisions.

Chase Daniel Talks About His Day

Just had a chance to talk to Chase Daniel, and if he’s disappointed that he’s not going to be on the 53-man roster, he’s not showing it, instead very much choosing to focus on the positive side of things. Mainly, he’ s feeling good about the potential practice squad opportunity.

The QB3 Derby? Kinda Doesn't Exist Anymore.

Well, it looks like Chase Daniel isn’t going to be the Redskins third QB either. Initially reported by Chris Mortensen at ESPN, and confirmed by Daniel via Twitter, Daniel has been put on waivers. According to Daniel’s Twitter, he expects to be on the practice squad, but that won’t be confirmed until after he clears waivers tomorrow.

It certainly seems likely — although it’s only a guess — is that if Daniel does get brought back to the practice squad, the team won’t have a third quarterback in uniform on gamedays. But for the moment, the Redskins are one of two teams in the NFC East to be moving forward with two QBs; the Giants seem to have made the same decision when they released Andre Woodson earlier today.
