The Chris Baker 92 Foundation Visits Wheatley Education Campus To Talk Literacy
Redskins Participate In Pros Vs. GI Joes

Washington Redskins defensive lineman Chris Baker, along with the Chris Baker 92 Foundation, hosted a book drive event at a nearby pizza restaurant in Ashburn, Va., Monday night.

Baker, whose foundation promotes children’s literacy programs in Washington, D.C. area schools, collected kids books and posed for photos with fans who were encouraged to bring books for students in grades K-5.

Joining Baker was wide receiver Pierre Garcon:

Last month, Baker visited the Wheatley Education Campus and spoke to fourth and fifth graders about the importance of literacy, bringing in a computer program to the campus as well.

This month, the program will be implemented in Windsor, Conn., and The Chris Baker 92 Foundation Reading Challenge will take place in January of next year.

“It’s something they can do here [or] at home,” Baker said in November. “They can take it home to have their parents help them out with their education programs. It’s something to help them reach their scores in reading and writing.”

GIF: Swaggy’s New Sack Dance

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on March 26, 2014 – 4:40 pm

Chris Baker got the first sack of his career last season against the Bears. After he took down Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, he pointed and high-stepped away.

As we found out in a Google+ Hangout with big “Swaggy,” Baker has new plans for a sack celebration inspired by Jason Hatcher.

It all began with a surprise visit from Ryan Kerrigan at Andrew Walker’s office.

Brandon Meriweather Is Not An Alien

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on March 18, 2014 – 1:14 pm

Brandon Meriweather is not the Predator. But the long-haired safety will return to Washington to track footballs like a heat-seeking alien bent on destroying Jesse Ventura, Carl Weathers and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Sorry, I love that movie. Yes, I can spell Schwarzenegger without consulting the internet.

RGIII, Hall, Baker Welcome Back Orakpo

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on March 4, 2014 – 10:19 am

Although the franchise tag is not a guarantee Brian Orakpo will return to the Redskins in 2014, it grants the Redskins control of his rights and allows the team more time to negotiate a long-term deal should Washington want to move in that direction.

Orakpo has taken the move in stride.

“They did what they had to do,” he told the Washington Post. “I’m just kind of glad we can at least make a step moving forward instead of being at a stalemate with this whole situation.”

The linebacker’s probable return was reason enough for his teammates to celebrate on Twitter. Read more »

The Best Of Big “Swaggy” Chris Baker

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on February 27, 2014 – 3:19 pm

It’s been a long road for defensive lineman Chris Baker. Now “Swaggy” is reaping the rewards.

After getting kicked out of school at Penn State, maturing at Hampton and being waived by the Denver Broncos and the Miami Dolphins, Baker found a home in Washington. In 2013, his second year with the Redskins, the 26-year old snatched a starting job and his first career sack.

The Redskins showed a commitment to developing and retaining talent by announcing Thursday the team has re-signed Baker before he could test the market as a free agent.

“I think this year I’ve taken practice a lot more seriously and the film room a lot more seriously, and it’s starting to show on the field,” Baker said during the season.

Chris Baker And Eli Manning Made Up

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on January 21, 2014 – 10:34 am

The Redskins defensive end and the Giants quarterback found common ground below the Rocky Mountains.

Chris Baker has been in Denver rooting on his childhood pal, Broncos defensive tackle Terrance Knighton. Eli Manning was of course at Sunday’s AFC Championship to support his older brother, Denver quarterback Peyton Manning.

Baker rolled up on Eli Manning’s ankle in December, causing an injury that would eventually knock him out of the regular season finale in New York. On Instagram all appeared to be well between the two professionals over the weekend.

Give Chris Baker a pass, please.

The sight of the Redskins defensive end decked out in Broncos gear on Sunday in Denver might upset some Redskins fans, but here’s why you should be okay with it.

Adam Carriker, Aldrick Robinson Call Florida State Over Auburn For BCS Title

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on January 7, 2014 – 10:27 am

When No. 2 Auburn went up, 21-3, on  No. 1 Florida State in the first half of the Vizio BCS National Championship Monday night, defensive end Adam Carriker looked like a man who should stick to pro wrestling analysis.

With 00:13 left on the clock in Pasadena, Calif., Carriker looked like Nostradamus.

FSU Heisman Winner Jameis Winston completed a 2-yard touchdown pass to Kelvin Benjamin to cap off the two-minute drill and win the game. Roberto Aguayo’s extra point made the final score 34-31.

Before the game, Carriker predicted a score just one point shy of what transpired.
