Fans Rally Around Redskins In Dallas!

Posted by Brian Tinsman on October 13, 2013 – 12:58 am

Outside of the greater DMV area, one of the strongest hotbeds of Washington Redskins support has always come from deep in the heart of Texas.

That may come as a surprise to fans outside of the Lonestar State–what with the Dallas Cowboys and all–but the Burgundy and Gold Fan Club of Dallas, Texas has a great following and throws some of the best Redskins rallies worth looking forward to every year.

This year’s event was scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., but the Redskins setup team (including your’s truly) was greeted at the door by dozens of fans when they arrived at quarter to 5. By 5:15 there was a steady stream of fans through the free T-shirt line, and by 5:30 it was downright crowded in the bar area.

By the time the Redskins celebrities arrived at 6 p.m., the fans had already maxed out capacity of the restaurant and the 400 free “Live It” T-shirts at the door were long-gone. Gazing outside, there was a line of Redskins fans waiting patiently on the sidewalk to get into the bar.

That’s when the real fun began, as Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder, accompanied by his wife Tanya Snyder, came to the party, joined by general manager Bruce Allen, former players Chris Cooley and Rick ‘Doc’ Walker, and voice of the Redskins, Larry Michael.

A good time was had by all, and here’s a social recap of the night’s festivities:

Beathard On The Hiring Of Joe Gibbs

Posted by Stephen Czarda on March 28, 2013 – 1:12 pm

Bobby Beathard, Pat Bowlen

The Washington Redskins are ramping up preparations for their 81st campaign, looking to defend their NFC East crown after an improbable seven-game winning streak to end the 2012 regular season. Five of those wins came against division foes.

Winning a second consecutive division crown is certainly on the team’s goals sheet for the 2013 season, but this team has their sights set on a bigger prize.

Led by head coach Mike Shanahan and general manager Bruce Allen, the team is seeking to add a fourth Lombardi Trophy to the collection.

The first two Super Bowl team’s were assembled by Hall of Fame coach Joe Gibbs and general manager Bobby Beathard.

Beathard’s hiring of Gibbs is hands down one of the great moves in franchise history as the Burgundy and Gold dominated the NFC during the 1980’s.

Find out what Beathard had to say about prying Gibbs away from the San Diego Chargers and tapping him to be the lead man of the Washington Redskins here:

Redskins’ O-Line Injected With New Blood

The Washington Redskins have had well-documented struggles against the salary cap this offseason, but continue to address the depth and competition along the offensive line.

In addition to retaining starting right tackle Tyler Polumbus, the Redskins injected some new blood with longtime Tampa Bay Buccaneers tackle Jeremy Trueblood.

Besides having one of the most awesome football names ever, Trueblood comes with a résumé of success dating back to his days at Boston College, continuing through his first seven years at the professional level in the Sunshine State.

It appears that a competition is a’brewing at right tackle heading into training camp, as the Redskins seek their first back-to-back division titles since the 1983-84 seasons:

A Saturday Snapshot From The Combine

Posted by Chris Herting on February 24, 2013 – 10:35 am

The Offensive Line and Tight Ends took the field today to show off their speed and agility. Although we didn’t expect to see a whole lot of speed burners today, there were a few players who impressed scouts and who possibly saw their stocks rise. For us, it was also fun to watch to say the least.

Here’s a look at the top five tight end 40-yard dash times from Saturday (via nfl.com):

  1. Player                                  School                   Height   Weight 40 time
  2. Chris Gragg                         Arkansas                 6-3            244         4.50
  3. Matt Furstenburg            Maryland                6-3            242         4.62
  4. Jake Stoneburner            Ohio State               6-3            252         4.65
  5. Tyler Eifert                         Notre Dame           6-5            250         4.68
  6. Vance McDonald             Rice                           6-4            267         4.69

And now a look at the top five offensive lineman 40-yard dash times from Saturday (via nfl.com): Read more »

First Time At The Combine

Posted by Chris Herting on February 22, 2013 – 11:46 pm

lucas-oil-stadiumThere’s one word that can describe the city of Indianapolis in February: Cold. Maybe a better word to use is frigid.

Nonetheless, our plane touched down earlier today in Indy, fresh off of an ice storm that impacted much of the Midwest Thursday night into Friday morning. But despite the bitter cold temperatures outside, we ventured over to Lucas Oil Stadium to catch the 2013 NFL Combine.

The five block trek through the city streets was worth the energy and excitement palpitating through the hundreds of media that were gathered together upon our arrival.

Today, kickers and punters took the field to show off their talents and abilities to NFL scouts representing all 32 teams. But as exciting as coffin corner punts are, we naturally turned our attention to the running backs and wide receivers who reported to the stadium today.

For the first time, these former college stars experienced a taste of what an NFL interview room feels like. The vibe inside was electric. The media were firing questions. Coaches, scouts and GMs were deep in analysis. And the athletes were prepared.

See Part One

See Part Two

Our walk down Memory Lane for Bruce and George Allen concludes today as the brothers get into one of the most successful periods of Redskins history, as well as the current team and the future of the franchise.

Bruce — the current general manager of the Redskins — and George — the former governor of Virginia — took a stroll down the “Hail To The Redskins Walk” Wednesday at Redskins Park, and Redskins.com was there with our cameras.

Here’s the fifth of six videos of Bruce and George Allen talking about the Redskins greats:
