Over the next few weeks we will be looking back on some Redskins greats for their heroics on the field as well as off of it. Today, Redskins.com intern Chris DeLisi looks back on linebacker Brad Dusek’s career and his ability to let pigskins roam free.

What do Brian Orakpo, Robert Griffin III and late 1970s linebacker Brad Dusek have in common?

They are all Redskins born and raised in the state of Texas. Although Texas is home to the evil empire that is the Dallas Cowboys, it has produced some of the best players in Burgundy and Gold history.

So without further ado, this is the football life of Brad Dusek.

Storylines To Follow In 2013: WAS-PHI

Last year when the Washington Redskins were sitting at 3-6 entering the Bye Week, almost no one outside of the DMV predicted they would climb out of the division cellar.

One seven-game winning streak later and those who said such things are now biting their tongues reading about the defending NFC East champs.

With the Philadelphia Eagles on the slate twice in the last two months of the season, the Redskins should have never been counted out. After all, the Redskins have recorded more wins against the Eagles (81) than any other team.

As part of the NFL’s opened weekend extravaganza, the 79th edition of Redskins-Eagles will be on Monday Night Football. Here are just some storylines to follow.

Key Performers Against Philly In 2012

With a pleasant Memorial Day weekend behind us, it’s time for America to get back to the daily grind of a typical work week.

The Washington Redskins are among the masses who are heading back to work as they are back at the Park for another week of OTAs and with news that it is 100 days until the start of the 2013 regular season (104 for the Burgundy and Gold) the hype surrounding the Redskins Monday Night Football opener is starting to gain speed quicker than Robert Griffin III in the open field.

Before we preview the Redskins season opener against the 2012 last place Eagles, we want to look back at the lopsided season series that was against one of Washington’s biggest rivals last year.

While we all know the story of Griffin III’s perfect quarterback rating in the 155th meeting between the two squads, let’s take a look at four players who deserve recognition for helping the Redskins sweep the season series against the Eagles for the first time since 2008.

One-Half Of Kerrakpo Speaks About 2013

Posted by Stephen Czarda on May 21, 2013 – 3:15 pm

Last year Redskins Nation had to watch one half of the dynamic linebacker duo of Ryan Kerrigan and Brian Orakpo, known more affectionately as Kerrakpo in our Nation’s Capital, sit out the majority of the season with an upper-body injury.

The twosome had the opportunity to brew something as the bookends of a talent laden linebacking unit. In the debut season of Kerrakpo the pair totaled 122 tackles, 16.5 sacks, nine passes defensed, and seven forced fumbles.

With a fully healthy Orakpo on the horizon and a Pro Bowl year under Kerrigan’s belt, Kerrakpo 2.0 could be even deadlier than the first version.

Lookout NFC East.

Morris Hits Another Unexpected Homer

Going into the 2012 season, the hype surrounding the Redskins reached unrivaled levels thanks to this fellow by the name of Robert Griffin III.

Griffin III was joining a team littered with first round talents (Ryan Kerrigan, Trent Williams and Brian Orakpo) and undrafted phenoms outperforming their draft day exclusions like NFL ironman London Fletcher.

While No. 10 thrashed his opponents en route to AP Offensive Rookie of the Year honors, he isn’t the top rated Redskin on CBSSports’ NFL Top-100 list.

Enter Alfred Morris.

Linebackers To Host Youth Football Camp

Brian Orakpo and Ryan Kerrigan form quite the duo on the outsides of a talent-laden linebacking unit. The two have combined for three Pro Bowl appearances, 45.5 sacks, and countless opponents who fear entering the duo’s territory.

While Redskins Nation is waiting for the moment Orakpo rejoins Kerrigan and the rest of the Burgundy and Gold, the youngest generation of footballers in the DMV will be able to catch a glimpse of the pair and gain unparalleled knowledge from the former first round picks at the Brian Orakpo/Ryan Kerrigan Football Camp this July.

Jenkins Added To Loaded Linebacker Unit

As I wrote earlier today, the Redskins had an extra fifth round draft pick in this year’s from a 2011 trade and used it on Florida State linebacker Brandon Jenkins.

Jenkins was the second Florida State player selected by the Burgundy and Gold in the fifth round. Just eight picks earlier, the Redskins took FSU running back Chris Thompson.

Did the Redskins just add another future Pro Bowler to a unit that already features Brian Orakpo, Ryan Kerrgian, London Fletcher and Perry Riley?

Jenkins was a preseason All-American and All-ACC candidate in 2012 before suffering a season-ending foot injury. If the former Seminole plays up to his top pick potential before being sidelined, the Redskins just got another late round steal–a Mike Shanahan specialty.

Here’s a little video to get you jacked up for Jenkins arrival in the Nation’s Capital.

Possible RG3, Vick Duel Headlines Opener

Posted by Stephen Czarda on April 18, 2013 – 8:08 pm

Michael Vick, Robert Griffin III

Mark your calendars Redskins Nation its official, the 2012 NFC East champions will open the 2013 slate against NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football at FedExField. The opener is one of five primetime affairs for the Burgundy and Gold.

And yes its the same Eagles who the Redskins swept during the 2012 campaign including a 31-6 victory at FedExField that jump started the Redskins epic run to the postseason.

With plenty of storylines to dig into, it only seems fitting to do a way too early preview of a game that is still months away.

Here are some topics to follow that night:

What Will Make Us A Playoff Team in 2013?

Posted by Stephen Czarda on April 10, 2013 – 11:14 am

Alfred Morris, Robert Griffin III

By now you know all about the 2012 campaign where the Burgundy and Gold secured their first division title since the turn of the century.

While the season that was will go down as one of the most exciting  in franchise history thanks in large part to the instant injection of highlight reel moments by rookie record-breakers Robert Griffin III and Alfred Morris, the team as a whole stepped up their “game” after the bye week and made those that told them it was time to consider the season a lost cause bite their tongues.

With the 2013 season fast approaching (OTAs start next week!) its time to look forward to what the campaign can bring to the DMV.

As I was browsing the Internet this morning I came across an article by Yahoo! Sports that states what they believe will be key to the Redskins making back-to-back playoff appearances for the first time since they made it three straight years from 1990-1992. (Also, in the second year—the Redskins made the playoffs they won Super Bowl XXVI. Just sayin’.)

So lets take a look at what they believe will help the franchise make the 2013 playoffs.

Redskins Have New Linebacker On Tapp

Posted by Stephen Czarda on April 2, 2013 – 11:43 am

Darryl Tapp

Last week, the Washington Redskins signed former Philadelphia Eagle and Seattle Seahawk Darryl Tapp. During his seven years in the National Football League, Tapp has dug his hand deep in the dirt in the three-point stance on the line.

However, with the Burgundy and Gold Tapp will convert to linebacker and provide quality depth for one of the best linebacking units in the league that includes Pro Bowlers London Fletcher, Ryan Kerrigan and Brian Orakpo. Middle linebacker Perry Riley was top-15 in tackles in his first year as a full-time starter and Rob Jackson burst onto the scene after setting career-highs across the board including a key interception in the team’s Week 17 NFC East clinching victory against the Dallas Cowboys.

While he has spent the past three years with one of the Redskins biggest foes, Tapp is ready to play for the team he grew up rooting for.
