EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: ‘Skins Take The Field
Posted by on November 4, 2012 – 12:38 pmSeveral awesome moments have unraveled at today’s Redskins 80th Anniversary Homecoming festivities, but none of which has been better so far than Pedro “Pete” Taylor, Sean Taylor’s father, joining the Redskins defensive backs and safeties in their pre-game ritual prior to taking the field.
Sean Taylor is one of the “10 For 80″ honorees being celebrated today as one of the 80 Greatest Redskins of All-Time.
Also included in the video above are two cool exchanges — one between tight end Chris Cooley and “10 For 80″ honoree LaVar Arrington, and another between Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan and “10 For 80″ honoree Clinton Portis.
Also included is linebacker London Fletcher’s pre-game speech.
Enjoy.

Memory Lane For Bruce & George Allen 2
Posted by on November 2, 2012 – 10:14 am
Our walk down Memory Lane for Bruce and George Allen continues today as the brothers get into an era of Redskins history they know very well.
That’s because it’s the era when their father, George Allen — or as their kids call him, “Grandcoach” — turned Washington into one of the more successful teams in the NFL.
George, who lived by the mantra “the future is now,” was a 2002 Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee who compiled a 116-47-5 regular season record as the Redskins’ head coach from 1971 through 1977.

Bruce — the current general manager of the Redskins — and George — the former governor of Virginia — took a stroll down the “Hail To The Redskins Walk” Wednesday at Redskins Park, and Redskins.com was there with our cameras.
Here’s the third of six videos of Bruce and George Allen talking about the Redskins greats:

Yes, The Steelers Are Wearing These
Posted by on October 26, 2012 – 9:43 am(Photos courtesy of The Pittsburgh Steelers Blog)
They’ve already been referred to by many national media outlets as “disturbingly ugly” and “absurd.” But I guess the Pittsburgh Steelers are taking the “I know you are, but what am I?” approach to their 80th-anniversary throwback uniforms.
Like, the Redskins, the Steelers are also celebrating their 80th year as an NFL franchise this season — and, like the Redskins, they’re doing so with commemorative set of uniforms. While the Redskins will wear their 80th Anniversary Uniforms at two home games to be determined, we’re all in for a treat when the Steelers dawn their throwbacks Sunday against the Washington Redskins at Heinz Field.

Go: Ruth’s Chris 80th Anniversary Dinners
Posted by on October 11, 2012 – 12:19 pm
What better way to celebrate the Washington Redskins’ 80th-Anniversary season than with an excellent five-course meal and a glass of the team’s special 80th-Anniversary wine, Redskins Reserve?
Answer is: there is no better way.
Celebrate the Redskins’ 80th season in style at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at Ruth’s Chris Steak House, the official steakhouse of the Washington Redskins, in Tysons Corner (Vienna), for the first of six exclusive dinners featuring five courses and the limited edition Reserve, the Redskins 80th-Anniversary wine, for just $85.
Here’s the full list of the Ruth’s Chris Steak House 80th Anniversary Dinners (each of which has a 6 p.m. start time):

10 For 80: Sean Taylor
Posted by on July 27, 2012 – 10:32 amNote: The Redskins Blog will be profiling several former players, coaches and team officials eligible to be voted by you, the fans, in this year’s Redskins 80th Anniversary celebration. To vote for Sean Taylor or your 10 other all-timers to join the already-chosen list of the 70 Greatest Redskins, go to http://www.redskins80th.com/
As a beginning note, I couldn’t possibly begin to try to put the life and career of Sean Taylor into a few paragraphs.
So I turn to the writing of former Redskins.com writer Gary Fitzgerald, who wrote this piece shortly after Taylor died in November 2007 after suffering a fatal gunshot wound in his Miami home:
