Redskins Have First 5-0 December Ever

Posted by Andrew Walker on January 4, 2013 – 10:15 am

December 2012

It was something perhaps the Mayans were trying to prevent.

Prior to this season, the Washington Redskins had played five games in the month of December five times in their 79 years as an NFL franchise. Never had they run the table in those opportunities.

That all changed this season with a Washington team playing inspired football and in the hunt — at the very least — for a spot in the playoffs. Read more »

If you were anywhere near a TV or a computer in the past few days, there’s a good chance you heard “Redskins” and “Cowboys” dozens and dozens of times.

After days of hype, the two teams and rivals met on national TV last night for NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” in a game that was turned out to be the NFC East championship. The winner moves on to host a playoff game; the loser goes home.

In case you forgot, the Redskins won 28-18 and will play host to the Seattle Seahawks Sunday at in the Wild Card round of the NFL playoffs.

Not surprisingly, the game performed very, very well ratings-wise, according to NBC Sports. Here’s some of their tweets from this morning:

Redskins Celebrate Goal No. 1 On Twitter

The Washington Redskins’ Goal No. 1 is accomplished.

The team claimed its first NFC East title late since 1999 Sunday night with its 28-18 win over the Dallas Cowboys. When they got back into their locker room, they found their NFC East Division Champions hats waiting for them.

But, as head coach Mike Shanahan has reiterated the past few weeks, only one team is happy at the end of the season. A divisional title off the heels of seven straight wins is nice, but it won’t mean anything if it doesn’t translate into a Super Bowl ring at season’s end.

For early this morning and into the day, however, the Redskins can celebrate their victory over the Cowboys. Then it’s on to the Seattle Seahawks, the Redskins’ opponent in Sunday’s playoff matchup at FedExField.

Here’s a collection of the Redskins players celebrating Sunday night’s win via Twitter:

Go crazy, Redskins fans. Your team is NFC East Champions.

The Washington Redskins defeated the Dallas Cowboys, 28-18, tonight at FedExField to claim their first NFC East title since 1999 — while sending the rival Cowboys home for good in the process. Washington (10-6), winners of seven straight, will play host to the Seattle Seahawks at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at FedExField in the first round of the playoffs.

The Redskins won tonight with a key performance from rookie running back Alfred Morris, who broke Clinton Portis’ single-season Redskins’ rushing record in the third quarter with a 10-yard run. Morris finished his day with 33 carries for 200 yards and three touchdowns.
