On Sept. 1, 1991, the Redskins opened the season with a 45-0 rout of the Lions at RFK Stadium.
Quarterback Mark Rypien completed 15 throws for 183 yards and two touchdowns, cornerback Darrell Green intercepted two passes for a defense that held the Lions to 154 yards, and rookie Brian Mitchell returned a punt 69 yards for a score.
