Yoga isn’t just for the petite.

Six-foot-6, 329-pound defensive end Jason Hatcher is among those who enjoy getting into the downward-facing dog and locust positions.

“I like to go to Bikram yoga, it’s like hot yoga, 90 minutes,” Hatcher said on “Redskins Late Night” about some of his favorite free time activities. “I like to play golf [and] just lay back and spend time with the family. I’m kinda a weird, simple type dude. I don’t really do a whole lot.”

In February, Hatcher, Robert Griffin III, Chris Neild and Akeem Davis did Bikram yoga together:

As far as golf, Hatcher tries to play whenever he can because it helps him, “get away from everything.”

“You just worry about this little white ball,” he said. “And it’s a tough game. It’ll keep your mind away from the stressful things you have in your life. So that’s why I enjoy doing it.”

Pierre Garcon’s sock game is getting pretty wild.

Garcon reps the burgundy and gold with pride every Sunday, but the Mount Union product mixed it up during a recent workout by wearing red, blue, orange, pink and yellow socks to go along with his team cleats.

Garcon last week posted a workout video — minus colorful footwear — that shows he’s ready to get the upcoming season going.

In three seasons with the Redskins, Garcon’s recorded 225 receptions for 2,731 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Ricky Jean Francois Learns What ‘HTTR’ Means

New defensive end Ricky Jean Francois joined ESPN 980 today to discuss his thoughts on the upcoming season and his transition into becoming a Redskin.

First, however, he had to relay the feedback he received after asking fans on Twitter what “HTTR” meant.

“I caught grief for that,” Jean Francois said. “I didn’t know, but believe me, I know it now. I know it now. I was like, this is my first time, I’ve got to learn the coaches, [what] ‘DMV,’ ‘HTTR’ stands for. There’s a lot of things I’ve got to learn.”

Who can blame him? But for all of his confusion regarding abbreviations, he at least helped clarify the fans’ puzzlement regarding the pronunciation of his name.

His middle name, Jean, should be pronounced like John, “almost like putting a ‘Z’ in it,” he said.

As for Jean Francois’ peanut butter jelly dance, his trademark move, which we covered last week, an important question was finally answered. What peanut butter is best?

Simple: “Jif… Crunchy.”

He also will be making sure that Redskins’ fans return to loving the classic PB&J sandwich.

“They’ve got to,” Jean Francois said. “If I’m coming to the nation, they’ve got to adopt it. It might take a minute for them to adjust to but they’ll love it after a point. I had to do that in Indianapolis and everybody loved it. So I’ve got to get the Redskins fans to do it, too.”

And just in case you were wondering if he is that serious about peanut butter jelly sandwiches:

“I even put [Jif] in my safe,” he said. “That’s how much I love it.”

In early-February, offensive line coach Bill Callahan reminisced to the days he would travel to Carlisle, Penn., to watch “The Hogs play in the 1980s. More than 30 years later he has a tradition to uphold.

Callahan is honored to be in a similar position to Joe Bugel’s in the 80s.

“Yeah, it was great. What a great experience that was. Just watching those linemen develop,” Callahan told Larry Michael, Voice of the Redskins, on “Redskins Nation.” “I’ve always prided myself on trying to take a group and make them better. This is a great challenge – one I’m fired up about.”

The Washington Redskins through the years have had its famed linemen from Russ Grimm and the rest of “The Hogs” to Trent Williams today.

National Pancake Day not only is a day about a breakfast food, but also a day to recognize the lineman knocking defensive players to their backs – also known as a “pancake.”

Any Redskins fans planning to attend the NFL Draft this year will get to experience more than just announcements at the podium.

With Chicago taking over hosting duties from New York City, the first time in 50 years the draft has been anywhere besides Manhattan, the NFL is revamping indoor and outdoor plans for the three-day event.

According to ESPN, the most engaging, immersive addition will be a place called “Draft-Town,” where fans will be able to test their speed running the 40-yard dash against players, obtain autographs and hang out in areas designated for all 32 teams.

“We’ll have screens inside those areas that reflect what is going on specifically with that team, including the social media conversation,” NFL senior vice president Peter O’Reilly said. “Not only will a legend from each team give the pick, as they typically do in the second round, but they’ll also make an appearance at the team chalet.”

There will also be live sets both inside the Auditorium Theater and across the street at Grant Park, where team tables will  be set up and picks will be relayed across Michigan Avenue into the theater.

The league promises that about 4,000 seats in and around the theater will be free of charge for fans and selected draft picks will be shepherded to Grant Park for a public interview.

So, as long as it’s not too cold, windy, or wet on that spring weekend, it should be worth the trip. Pack a burgundy and gold poncho just in case.

Beyond The Sidelines: Tedi

Get to know your Washington Redskins Cheerleaders beyond the sidelines! Today’s cheerleader is Tedi, who works in insurance and teaches dance when she’s not rooting on the Redskins.

I work for State Farm Insurance as an Agency Field Specialist. My job is to help a territory of 37 insurance agents to realize their highest business potential through implementation of new concepts and strategies in the areas of marketing, technology and bank product sales.

I also teach dance at Adrenaline Dance Studio in Northern Virginia. I have the pleasure of teaching a wide age range of young women how to dance, and we have many laughs along the way.

They keep me energized and always remind me to keep a solid perspective on life.

For fun I enjoy going out with friends, talking my heart out and meeting new people.

I especially love comedy clubs and hiking in nice weather! I love to visit new cities and learn about different ways of life, but my favorite place to be is in the presence of people who see the joys in every moment.

Eleven years ago today, the Washington Redskins landed Clinton Portis in a blockbuster trade with the Denver Broncos.

Portis, who played collegiality alongside Santana Moss and Sean Taylor at Miami, had an instant impact on the Redskins’ offense, rushing for 1,315 yards and five touchdowns in his first season.

The next season, Portis would break Stephen Davis’ franchise record for most rushing yards in a single season — which has since been surpassed by Alfred Morris — with 1,516 yards along with 11 touchdowns.

In seven seasons with the Redskins, Portis rushed for 6,824 yards and 46 touchdowns.

And, of course, you can’t talk about Portis without a look back at all of alter-egos during interviews:

Winter seems like it’s never going to end and most people they’re just counting down the days until they can start wearing shorts again.

For Washington Redskins running back Alfred Morris, though, almost every day is a shorts day regardless of how low the thermometer drops.

“I always knew I was going to end up somewhere cold, so many years of mental preparation,” Morris told Chris Paul on the set of “Redskins Late Night” about dealing with the cold after growing up in Florida. “I still walk around with shorts on. People probably look at me like I’m crazy, like I’ve lost my mind.”

Cold wind, however, gets Morris rushing to the dresser for a change to pants.

“I can’t deal with the cold wind, so I’m definitely bundled up then,” he said. “No shorts on those days, but any other days than that, I walk around with shorts. You’ll be lucky if I put a jacket on.”

Loudoun County, Va. native Ashley Caldwell, a two-time Olympian with the U.S. Skiing squad and lifelong Redskins fan, finished an impressive second place in the Freestyle Ski World Cup, which just finished on Sunday.

Caldwell won two of the seven freestyle competitions that took place (everywhere from Beijing to Minsk) over the last three months, finishing just below fellow American Kiley McKinnon.

Still, Caldwell went out with a bang, winning first place yesterday as the only lady landing triple jumps in the competition, especially impressive considering she had only completed one day of training. Read more »
