The Washington Redskins have given defensive lineman Isaako Aaitui another chance to play football.

Aaitui, signed to the practice squad today, is a native of Pago Pago, American Samoa and graduated from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas (UNLV), playing all four years for the Rebels after redshirting in 2006.

The 6-foot-3, 315 pounder has only made three tackles in his professional career — all coming in 2013 — since being starting his career with the Miami Dolphins in 2011.

He’s had brief stints with the New York Jets, New Orleans Saints and Dolphins again.

In 2012, his season was wiped away after tearing his ACL and MCL.

This past April, Aaitui went back to his school and home in Samoa as part of the NFL Players Tour to run football camps for youth. He helped with a foundation there to keep students active to fight diabetes and other health issues, as well as get them engaged with the sport.

“Just to see the faces and the smiles of the students and the kids [made me] speechless,” Aaitui said of the clinics. “I think if everybody can have the will to be successful, there’s always a way.”

Aaitui has an incredible backstory. He only played a year of football in high school and had never lifted bench pressed before in his life. He weighed 220 pounds. Then he came to the United States.

After one year using UNLV’s weight program, he had bulked up to 290 pounds, learned to speak English, and became an integral part of the Rebels defense. With two games left in the year, he’s hoping to make an impression while with his new teammates.

Washington Redskins defensive lineman Chris Baker, along with the Chris Baker 92 Foundation, hosted a book drive event at a nearby pizza restaurant in Ashburn, Va., Monday night.

Baker, whose foundation promotes children’s literacy programs in Washington, D.C. area schools, collected kids books and posed for photos with fans who were encouraged to bring books for students in grades K-5.

Joining Baker was wide receiver Pierre Garcon:

Last month, Baker visited the Wheatley Education Campus and spoke to fourth and fifth graders about the importance of literacy, bringing in a computer program to the campus as well.

This month, the program will be implemented in Windsor, Conn., and The Chris Baker 92 Foundation Reading Challenge will take place in January of next year.

“It’s something they can do here [or] at home,” Baker said in November. “They can take it home to have their parents help them out with their education programs. It’s something to help them reach their scores in reading and writing.”

Some fans need the perfect setup to watch the Washington Redskins play each week.

Carroll Nickens, who shared some photos on the “2014 Redskins Nation” Facebook group, certainly does.

She makes sure that people who come through her living room know what team she supports, covering up her couch with a burgundy blanket and seven different styled team hats.

She also has a Redskins helmet tucked away in the corner, too.

A few weeks ago we caught up with Christopher Bishop, who had turned one of his rooms into a Redskins “man cave,” painting his walls with team logos. People have also gotten creative with their personal offices, turning their bland cubicles into bursts of burgundy and gold, like this office we found in October.

Keep sending us your pictures of your colorful dedication!

Washington Redskins defensive end Jarvis Jenkins on Tuesday posted an Instagram shoutout to his parents who are celebrating their 27th wedding anniversary.

“Congrats to my two biggest critics and supporters my mother and father Mr and Mrs Lica and Larry Jenkins. 27 years of marriage today and counting. You guys keep me goin,” Jenkins captioned the photo.

Less than a year after their ‘I dos,’ Lica and Larry Jenkins had Jarvis — a now 6-foot-4, 315-pound defensive end who plays a key role in the Redskins’ rotation at the front of the 3-4.

Born and raised in Central, S.C., Jenkins family was sports-centric, as Larry is a former high school football player while Lica is a former junior college basketball player.

He admitted in an interview with Redskins.com in November that their backgrounds led to a pretty strict household at times.

“It was a little bit rough. My parents we were real hard on me,” Jenkins said. “My mom and dad, both working 12-hour shifts, it was a pretty good athletic family, [but a] strict household.”

In the days leading up to Thanksgiving this year, Jenkins’ family hosted the first-ever J3 Foundation turkey drive.

At the giveaway, Larry struggled to contain his emotions after he was asked what it meant for his son to giving away whole turkeys, green beans, mashed potatoes and stuffing to more than 100 families.

The looks on the students’ faces told it all.

The Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation and the U.S. Marines on Monday joined together to host the Skins Santa Shoppe at FedExField in Landover, Md.

The second the students — coming from 20 different Washington, D.C., area schools — walked into a locker room full of gifts, their spirits were instantly lifted.

As Daisy Anderson remarked, for some of the students, the gifts they received at the Skins Santa Shoppe may be the only ones they get during the holidays.

“I had one child tell me this experience will change his life,” she said. “You can’t beat it.”

Washington Redskins tackle Tyler Polumbus, on behalf of his charity group the TKO Foundation, made a special visit with offensive linemen Josh LeRibeus and Tom Compton to the Pediatric Oncology Unit at Fairfax Hospital Monday morning.

Supporting Amphora’s Bakery Charitable Organization, “Cakes Against Cancer,” the linemen visited with several pediatric cancer patients for the second-annual Gingerbread Workshop, building and decorating the cookie houses and spending time with many children who won’t get to spend their holidays at home.

After getting help from the kids, the linemen asked everyone to judge their gingerbread houses. Compton took first place, Polumbus second and LeRibeus third.

Both DeSean Jackson and Rashad Ross have blazing speed on the field, but just how fast are they on the race track?

While we don’t know the exact answer to that — at least yet — we do know that the two were at the indoor go-kart track at Allsports Grand Prix in Sterling, Va.

This isn’t the first time a pair of Redskins have buckled up the seat belt there, as wide receiver Pierre Garcon posted on his Instagram last weekend a photo of running back Alfred Morris and he there:

Social Recap: Redskins Charitable Foundation Hosts Skins Santa Shoppe

The Washington Redskins cafeteria turned into a temporary game room Monday morning, as active duty members serving overseas connected over Skype and Xbox with several Redskins to play video games as part of Pros vs. Joes.

Hosted by Redskins Salute, Pros vs. GI Joes — presented by Xbox and EA Sports– was founded by Greg Zinone seven years ago and has become a recurring event within the sports community. Connected over the internet, athletes play video games in the United States alongside family members and teammates, able to see their military members on television as they battle online.

Linebackers Perry Riley Jr. and Will Compton, defensive lineman Chris Baker, offensive tackle Trent Williams, long snapper Nick Sundberg and kicker Kai Forbath competed with active duty stationed at home and at Wounded Warriors Centers in Germany and Afghanistan.

“You see it with the troops, you see it’s a big thing for them,” Zinone said. “Over there in the Wounded Warriors Center, they sit down and see one of these athletes, it’s just big. Guys are in the Afghanistan, back and forth, they come down, all of a sudden they’re playing these athletes.”

“It’s pretty cool playing a video game of what they do,” said Compton. “It means a lot. We’re able to do this because of them. We’re very thankful.”

Social Recap: Redskins Charitable Foundation Hosts Skins Santa Shoppe

Instead of being home to 53 Washington Redskins like it usually is on gamedays, the locker room at FedExField on Tuesday was transformed into a toyshop, where students from 20 Washington, D.C., area schools were able to select from thousands of toys to take home for their own this holiday season.

As the kids scanned through all of the different options, they were joined by Tanya Snyder – wife of owner Dan Snyder – Redskins players, WOW Wives and Marines.

The players in attendance were running back Alfred Morris, fullback Darrel Young, tight ends Niles Paul, Je’Ron Hamm and Chase Dixon, offensive lineman Tevita Stevens, linebackers Trent Murphy and Jackson Jeffcoat, cornerback Kenny Okoro and safety Duke Ihenaco.

The first shift of players, including Paul and Young, got active with the kids, as they played catch with the students who picked out athletic equipment, while others like Young and Stevens helped young girls handpick their newest toys.

Below is a quick look at what happened through Twitter:

Check back with Redskins.com later for the complete story.
