London Fletcher Named ‘Top Five Over 35′

Redskins’ veteran linebacker London Fletcher this week was named the fourth-best NFL player older than 35, according to NFL.com analyst Bucky Brooks.

The selection is no surprise to those who have followed Fletcher’s career with the Redskins. Fletcher — who turns 37 years old tomorrow — last year led the NFL in tackles and is a perennial team captain.

Darrell Green: ‘Hometown Hall Of Famer’

Washington Redskins’ Hall-Of-Fame cornerback Darrell Green was honored this week by the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Allstate Insurance company as a “Hometown Hall of Famer” in his hometown of Houston.

Green on Tuesday was given the honor at his alma mater, Jones High School, and was presented a commemorative plaque that will be displayed at the school permanently, according to a release from the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Redskins Sign Draft Pick Robinson

The Redskins announced today that they have signed 2012 fourth-round draft pick, linebacker Keenan Robinson.

Robinson, who was the 119th overall pick in last month’s draft, played collegiately at Texas for four seasons. While there, he appeared in 51 games with 39 starts and was a two-time second team All-Big 12 selection (2010 & 2011).

Helu, Fiancee Build Marriage On Faith

It was a common interest in faith that made Redskins’ running back Roy Helu Jr. and his fiancee, Danielle, know they were right for each other.

And the couple will soon be taking that faith straight to the altar.

The Redskins’ Brian Tinsman reported about Helu Jr.’s engagement April 17. At the time Helu Jr. talked about the rapid development of his relationship with Danielle and how he was even enjoying taking part in wedding planning.

Since that time, Helu Jr. — a former star running back at the University of Nebraska — and Danielle — a national championship-winning former volleyball player at Nebraska — have also been the focus of an April 30 feature piece in the Omaha World-Herald.

‘Hard Knocks’ Not In Cards For Redskins

“Hard Knocks,” the popular HBO show that gives unprecedented looks into the daily ongoings of National Football League franchises, will definitely not be filming the Redskins in 2012, head coach Mike Shanahan confirmed Wednesday.

Shanahan talked about the potential issues of appearing on the show Wednesday with Mike Florio of NBC’s Pro Football Talk Live.

The Iowa product was selected by the Redskins with their final pick (217th overall) in last month’s NFL Draft.

Griffin III Back In Action; Slinging Socks

Redskins’ quarterback Robert Griffin III was among several rookies who reported back to Redskins Park this week to return to studying the playbook and meeting some more teammates.

Griffin III — the 2011 Heisman Trophy winner from Baylor and the Redskins’ second overall pick in last month’s draft — has already been named Washington’s starting quarterback, and was seen yesterday getting in a good workout with his teammates in the weight room.
