Loudoun County, Va. native Ashley Caldwell, a two-time Olympian with the U.S. Skiing squad and lifelong Redskins fan, finished an impressive second place in the Freestyle Ski World Cup, which just finished on Sunday.

Caldwell won two of the seven freestyle competitions that took place (everywhere from Beijing to Minsk) over the last three months, finishing just below fellow American Kiley McKinnon.

Still, Caldwell went out with a bang, winning first place yesterday as the only lady landing triple jumps in the competition, especially impressive considering she had only completed one day of training. Read more »

If you weren’t aware, Giuliana Rancic, the E! network host for numerous shows including “Fashion Police,” grew up in Bethesda, Md., and went to numerous Redskins games as a girl.

Well, she still shares her love for the team and has now passed it on to her 2-year-old son, Duke.

The little guy was wearing a Redskins shirt with his dad, Bill, who recently spoke to People Magazine about him.

“We go to the park in the afternoon,” Bill said. “I’ve got a little tee-ball set up and I’m teaching him to hit the ball. We’re having a lot of fun together.”

“I grew up going to the games,” Rancic told CSN Washington’s Chick Hernandez on Sports Talk Live in December. “My uncle had season passes, so I would score some. I loved to go watch the Redskins vs. the Cowboys, it was always fun to see that rivalry.”

Rancic also said the First Ladies of Football inspired her to be a high school cheerleader, even though it lasted just a year.

“To be honest, I would look less at the players and more at the cheerleaders,” she said. “Because I’d be like, ‘Oh my god, that’s so cool! I want to be a cheerleader one day.’”

Today is “Read Across America Day,” honoring the birthday of Theodor Geisel, a.k.a Dr. Seuss, the beloved children’s book author.

His illustrated stories, like “The Cat In The Hat,” “The Lorax” and “Green Eggs And Ham,” a personal favorite of linebacker Trent Murphy and tight end Niles Paul, have been longtime classics.

If you happen to read one to your child today (you totally should!), they’re also friendly reminders that the deadline is quickly approaching for the “Redskins Read Challenge.”

The program encourages students in grades K-6 throughout the D.C. Metro area to read 1,000 or more minutes from September 2014 through March 15, 2015.

For this annual challenge, hosted by the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation, once your child reaches the goal of 1,000 minutes, they can be nominated by a parent, guardian, teacher or librarian to be a “Redskins Read Challenge” Champion and win special prizes.

Need some suggestions for books? The Redskins players have you covered.

Linebacker Ryan Kerrigan’s favorites as a kid were the “Goosebumps” series. Running back Alfred Morris enjoyed “Love You Forever,” fullback Darrel Young enjoyed the “Berenstain Bears” books, and safety Akeem Davis grew up with “Goodnight Moon.”

Virginia Tech may very well be “Defensive Back University,” and it all started when DeAngelo Hall was roaming the field in Blacksburg, Va.

Since Hall left Virginia Tech for the NFL, though, others like Brandon Flowers, Kyle Fuller and Kam Chancellor have gone on to do the same, eventually trading in the Hokies jersey for an NFL one.

May of the younger players look up to Hall as well.

Chancellor responded to @Redskins‘ tweet on Hall talking about his recovery from a season-ending injury suffered last year:

Hall said he’s “ready to go, ready to compete, ready to prove everyone wrong who thinks I can’t come back.”

Is Darrell Green Going To Run Another 40-Yard Dash?

Last week we wrote that Washington Redskins great and Pro Football Hall of Fame cornerback Darrell Green was talking about possibly running another 40-yard dash at 55 years old.

While Green can certainly talk the game — he’s a four-time winner of the NFL’s Fastest Man Competition — he also needs to get his body ready, too, believe it or not.

Sunday evening, while most were probably winding down from the weekend and getting ready for the start of the work week, Green was at the gym:

Now Green did say he is running the 40-yard dash for fun, but it’s more than just a four-second run. He wants to promote healthy living as well:

Oh, and as for a time he might be able to run:

Only Darrell.
