Below is a brief history of the “other” football at FedExField:
In 1999, FedExField hosted several games of the Women’s World Cup, most notably a back-and-forth affair between the US Women’s National Team and Germany where the red, white and blue rebounded from a 2-1 deficit to win, 3-2.
D.C. United posted a pair of friendlies against European powers Chelsea F.C. and Real Madrid. The first was against Chelsea in 2005 and the second against Real Madrid in 2009.
In 2011, Manchester United and Barcelona took to the pitch of FedExField just two months after they battled in the UEFA Champions League Final for European supremacy.
The US Men’s National Team and Brazil tangled in July 2012.
Then in 2014, Spain and El Salvador battled before the World Cup while Manchester United and Inter Milan faced off in late July.
