Best Of ‘Redskins Late Night’: Niles Paul Talks Underwear Modeling

The common suggestion for getting through nerves is to picture everyone in their underwear.

But what about when you’re wearing underwear?

That was tight end Niles Paul’s predicament during a photo shoot with his agency.

“They make all their athletes do an underwear shoot and it was real uncomfortable,” Paul told hosts Crystal Bell and Chris Paul on the set of “Redskins Late Night.” “So I made [best friend] Nate [Prater] come in there and Nate just made everybody laugh. So in that whole shoot I was cracking up laughing, in my draws, in front of a green screen.”

Moral of the story? Have a friend that can cut the tension with a few jokes and you’re embarrassment won’t feel so dramatic…until you recall it on a late night show.

On Feb. 13, 1937, the Washington Redskins were officially born.

The NFL approved the transfer of the team from Boston to Washington, D.C., and the Redskins moved into Griffith stadium under head coach Ray Flaherty. The decision proved to be successful.

The team finished the regular season with an 8-3 record under the helm of quarterback Sammy Baugh and beat the Chicago Bears 28-21 at Wrigley Field in front of 15,878 fans to win the NFL Championship.

As it so happens, we received a pretty cool photo from a fan to celebrate this anniversary.

Above is a framed and signed team photo from 1937, which contains every autograph from the players shown, including Baugh (No. 33), who set 13 NFL records as a quarterback, punter and defensive back and is considered one of the greatest football players of all-time.

This has to be one of the greatest pieces of Redskins memorabilia of all-time, too.

The Redskins’ defensive and special teams units were incredible during the 1972 season and NFL Films was there to capture every single play.

The Redskins Blog continues it’s look at the work of Ed Sabol and NFL Films by taking you back to the 1972 season when the Redskins, led by George Allen, would appear in their first Super Bowl.

While there were some truly great talents on the offensive side of the ball like Sonny Jurgensen, Billy Kilmer, Larry Brown, Jerry Smith and Charley Taylor, it was the defense and special teams that set the tone.

The defense gave up just 218 points, the least amount by any NFC team. In back-to-back games early in the season, the Redskins shut out the Philadelphia Eagles and then gave up just three points to the St. Louis Cardinals.

Then on the NFC side of the playoff bracket, the Redskins gave up a combined six points to the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys.

Check back with The Redskins Blog tomorrow as we’ll show footage and have more from that playoff game with the Packers.
