Ed Sabol was one of a kind. His revolutionary work with NFL Films changed the way football is seen on television and through online video.
Over the coming days, The Redskins Blog will look back at some of Sabol’s work with NFL Films by showing segments involving the Redskins from years past.
Up first is a piece on the hiring of legendary head coach George Allen, which you can see above.
Allen took over in 1971 and his impact was instantly felt, as he guided the Redskins to a 9-4-1 record. Then in 1972, the Pro Football Hall of Famer led the Redskins to their first Super Bowl appearance after accumulating an 11-3 regular-season record, which, at the time, was the most wins in a single season in franchise history
Allen finished his seven-year run as the Redskins head coach a 67-30-1 regular-season record, and many of the franchise’s greatest moments during that span can still be seen to this day thanks to Sabol.
Check back with The Redskins Blog tomorrow as we’ll have a piece on Vince Lombardi’s time in Washington.
