Over the coming weeks, The Redskins Blog will be providing you with a different look at the franchise’s past.
Unlike Throwback Thursday where we’ve looked at important moments on the gridiron against an upcoming opponent, this series will examine some of the lighter moments as we go through all of the photos stored at Redskins Park in Loudoun County, Va.
I’m not sure if the Redskins bathroom was a good place to analyze plays and personnel, but it certainly hosted many meetings over the years (remember the coach’s meeting with Joe Gibbs?)
We’re not blessed with much context for these photos, which in many ways makes them more enjoyable.
In this photo, taken Oct. 24, 1971, head coach George Allen sits with his coaching staff and listens to linebacker Jack Pardee address a group of players (including Hall of Famer Chris Hanburger) perched around him, sitting on…whatever they can find.
A few questions.
— Why are they meeting in the shower?
— Why does Pardee get the stool while Allen and the coaches sit on buckets?
— What do you think Pardee is discussing in this shot?
Extra points if you can name all the other players…
Without any background, we’ll just have to believe meetings in the locker room shower were a tradition in the 1970s and 1980s.
