Legendary Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs has a good sense of humor.

This past week, six former NFL players, including former Redskin Brian Mitchell, teamed up with a top NASCAR driver to experience the thrill of riding full speed at the Charlotte Motor Speedway as part of NBC’s Gridiron Challenge.

Before the ex-players climbed into the passenger seat, Gibbs, representing Joe Gibbs Racing, cut the tension with a joke.

Going down the line of racers, he handed each player a diaper, just in case.

“I would hate to see you make a mess of yourselves,” he wise-cracked.

After the 20-lap race, the driver tandems were tasked with some NFL drill competitions to even the playing field.

Well played, Joe.
