John Riggins has made it to the big screen.
The legendary Redskins running back stars in a football scene for the new Kevin Hart vehicle, “The Wedding Ringer,” which hit theaters Friday.
The R-rated comedy also stars Josh Gad, who plays a man about to get married but needs help throwing together a wedding party and finding a best man. Hart’s character comes to save a potential embarrassment, obtaining a group of random groomsmen in time for the wedding.
As these kinds of movies typically go, Gad must face off against his father-in-law in a game of pickup touch football. It just so happens that “new dad” has some football friends: Hall of Famers Joe Namath, Ed “Too Tall” Jones and Riggins.
“This is one football game for the ages,” Gad told USA Today.
“We got to play with the legends — ‘Broadway’ Joe Namath, John Riggins, Ed ‘Too Tall’ Jones,” Hart said. “These players were the scariest guys in their day. And they can definitely lay you out.”
Riggins is no stranger to acting however. After he was inducted in to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1992, Riggins starred in Off-Broadway productions of “Gillette” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
He also played a head football coach accused of illegal recruiting practices in the play “Illegal Motion.”
For any “One Tree Hill fans,” you may also remember Riggins played Ken Arthur, a sports agent, for three episodes in the show.
“Riggo” always did have that movie star appeal (just look at his head shot). Maybe this is the start of a new career.
