It takes a lot of hard work for a professional football player to stay fit and healthy.

For the Washington Redskins, the team has two individuals who ensure the guys are able to eat right on a daily basis: executive chef Jon Mathieson and team dietician Rob Skinner.

On Saturday, Mathieson and Skinner were special guests at the annual NBC4 Health & Fitness Expo in Washington, D.C., where they demonstrated a meal that they would cook for Redskins players at the team’s cafeteria in Loudoun County, Va.

Dexter Manley, Gary Clark, Ken Harvey and Ricky Ervins certainly gave it their all each and every time they took the field for the Washington Redskins, so they were more than happy to spend some time on Saturday with hundreds of locals willing to give something, themselves.

The four Redskins alums were special guests at Saturday’s Inova Blood Donor Service’s blood drive at the team’s indoor practice facility in Loudoun County, Va.

Those who came out to give blood on Saturday were treated to photos, autographs and smiling faces from the former players, who talked about the importance of such an event.

“Donating blood is something that you don’t think about until you need it and sometimes you don’t realize how valuable it is until you need it,” Harvey told Redskins.com. “Hopefully no one does, but if you do, these people are real heroes because they’re taking the time to donate blood.”

You can read more about the event by clicking here — which includes a full photo gallery — but here’s a social media recap from the @Redskins accounts:

Throughout the last week, a majority of ESPN’s shows have aired live in Texas in anticipation of Monday night’s National Championship Game between the Oregon Ducks and Ohio State Buckeyes.

On Friday at Gilley’s Dallas, a bar located right near the old Cotton Bowl Stadium, His & Hers held a live show where they had former Redskin Mark May on as a guest.

Despite being in the city that calls the Cowboys home, May, who talked about both college football and the NFL, wasn’t shy in showing off one of his two Super Bowl rings to the crowd.

Washington Redskins tight end Niles Paul received quite the honor on Friday evening at North High School in Omaha, Neb. — his football jersey was retired alongside some of the other greats to pass through the school’s doors.

“What a great honor it was to have my jersey retired tonight by my former high school Omaha North. I am forever grateful & blessed to have went to a school where there were amazing coaches & teachers who helped keep me focused on the ultimate goal,” Paul captioned the Instagram photo.

While it’s been years since he put on a No. 21 jersey, he has remained quite close to the school while in Washington.

In November, as The Redskins Blog noted, Paul provided the current squad with a second set of jerseys and some accessories including cleats and gloves.

This came after he gave a first set of jerseys in 2013.

“There are a lot of kids in that school who don’t have a lot,” he said at time time. “We all come from less fortunate backgrounds. I played my whole high school career with one pair of shoes and one pair of cleats the whole time, so I just wanted to make sure that everybody didn’t have to deal with the same problem.”
