It has been a busy week so far for celebrity Redskins fans and Tuesday afternoon brought another fan some exciting news.

Former Astros second baseman Craig Biggio, a longtime Washington Redskins fan, was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame along with pitchers Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez and John Smoltz.

It was the most amount of players selected in one class by writers since 1955.

Biggio, who received 82.7% of the vote in his third time on the ballot, spent his entire 20-year career in Houston. He ranks 21st on baseball’s all-time hit list with 3,060 and his 668 doubles are fifth most of all time.

Many believed Biggio should have been voted in two years ago when his name was first eligible. Last year he missed the Hall by just two votes. Notables who missed the cut this year were former Mets catcher Mike Piazza and former Astros first baseman Jeff Bagwell.

Biggio grew up a Redskins fan and still roots for the team, but has also lent his allegiance to the Texans once the franchise moved back to Texas. We’re glad he still remains true to the burgundy and gold.

Congrats, Craig!

Bobby Mitchell was truly a one of a kind football player, and tonight, 60 Minutes Sports on Showtime at 10 p.m. will dive into his career as a professional football player and more.

Mitchell, an Illinois product, spent his first few seasons in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns before being traded to the Redskins in 1962.

And while he had some success in Cleveland, he really burst onto the scene with the Redskins and became that Hall of Fame player that Redskins fans still remember to this day.

In his first two years in burgundy and gold, Mitchell eclipsed 1,300 yards in both seasons, tops in the league.

In 1964, he also hauled in an NFL-high 10 touchdowns including two against the Philadelphia Eagles in a 35-20 victory and two against New York Giants in a 36-21 victory.

After the season finale in 1968, Mitchell decided to call it a career after 11 seasons, the last seven of which were in Washington.

In 98 games with the Redskins, Mitchell hauled in 393 passes for 6,492 yards and 40 touchdowns while also adding 438 rushing yards and two touchdowns to his resume.

He was voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1983.

Be sure to tune in tonight, and if you can’t, set the DVR to Showtime at 10 p.m.

It’s wedding bells for noted Redskins fan Benji Madden and Cameron Diaz.

The couple began dating in May 2014, got engaged shortly after and started their new year with a quiet wedding in Los Angeles Monday night.

Benji is lead guitarist and singer with his twin brother, Joel, in the band “Good Charlotte” and most recently “The Madden Brothers.”

They were born in Waldorf, Md., and attended La Plata High School, part of Charles County Public Schools.

“Good Charlotte,” which began in 1996, earned them huge success. The punk rock band released five studio albums and won several MTV music awards.

The brothers, regardless of where they live now, still wear their native Maryland sports pride– including many tattoos that feature different local teams.

Diaz meanwhile just finished up a busy year with several movies — The Other Woman and most recently Annie to name a few — that earned less than stellar reviews. But, like other Redskins fan and fellow actor Matthew McConaughey, the projects have allowed her a significant career revitalization.

Here’s hoping Benji, who is also a clothes designer, can sway Diaz to add some burgundy and gold to her wardrobe in the coming months.

The Redskins Blog yesterday informed you that Dexter Manley, the team’s record holder for most sacks in a single-season, will be at Redskins Park this Saturday for Inova’s blood drive.

We’re happy to announce today that Manley will be joined by Ken Harvey, a five-year veteran with the Redskins who recorded 13.5 sacks in his first season in Washington.

From 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Inova will be holding a blood drive at the team’s headquarters in Loudoun County, Va., where there will be a ton of neat activities, but, of course, most important is the opportunity to help save lives.

Inova Blood Donor Services supplies 24 hospitals in Northern Virginia and the Washington, D.C., metro area with lifesaving blood and blood products. One blood donation can save up to three lives.

While at the Park, you can get a limited edition Redskins shirt, a VIP Tour of the facility, a picture with the Super Bowl Trophies and the chance to win a 2015 VIP Game Experience including two premium tickets, the opportunity to stand on the field during the National Anthem and more.

In total, Harvey recorded 41.5 sacks with the Redskins — fourth-most in franchise history.

As we get closer to the blood drive, be sure to check back with The Redskins Blog each day this week as we’ll be unveiling all of the alumni set to be at Redskins Park this weekend.

Old Man Winter’s presence was felt in the Washington, D.C., area Tuesday , as snow fell throughout the morning.

It marked the first snowfall for the area in 2015, and the first time Redskins Park in Loudoun County, Va., has been blanketed in the fluffy white stuff since late November.

While some of the players are out of the area right now, a few that are took to Twitter to talk about the snow.

Today’s snow and cold weather is the start of a week-long chill in the area, as temperatures aren’t expected to get out of the 20’s until Friday.

Bundle up!

Dale Earnhardt Jr., The Good Luck Charm

Dexter Manley To Attend Saturday Inova Blood Drive

It seems as though bestowing good luck to a football team is becoming a theme for diehard Redskins fan Dale Earnhardt Jr.

In Jacksonville on Friday for the Taxslayer Bowl between Tennessee and Iowa, Earnhardt Jr. flipped the coin to determine who would receive the ball first. The Volunteers took the opening drive in for a touchdown and never looked back, winning 45-28.

“We wanted to start fast,” Tennessee coach Butch Jones told reporters afterward. “We thought that was critical in this game.”

As reported and posted by Fox Sports, Tennessee hadn’t won a bowl game in six years. Maybe Earnhardt helped the spell?

Well, it wouldn’t be ridiculous to think so.

Over the last couple of years, when Earnhardt has graced the Redskins radio booth, good things have happened, too.

In 2012, he jumped onto the broadcast and called a Roy Helu Jr. touchdown during the preseason. Two years later, he did it again, calling a Kirk Cousins touchdown pass to wide receiver Ryan Grant.

We’ll just have to see if Jones brings Earnhardt back for a coin flip at the start of next season.

He will definitely need him for the “Battle of Bristol” in September of 2016, when the infield at the 160,000-seat Bristol Motor Speedway will turn into a football field for Tennessee and Virginia Tech, hoping to attract the largest crowd in college football history.
