The name sounds familiar, and it should.

The Redskins today announced the signing of safety Da’Mon Cromartie-Smith to a Reserve/Futures contract. He rejoins the team after being released during the final round of cuts in August.

His name is also recognizable to just about every NFL fan. Cromartie-Smith is the younger brother of retired fullback Terrelle Smith and is the cousin of Cardinals cornerback Antonio Cromartie and Giants cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.

Cromartie-Smith, 6-foot-10, 210 pounds, played college football for Texas-El Paso where he earned an All-Conference Honorable Mention as a junior defensive back.

He went undrafted and signed with the Steelers in 2010 and later that year joined the United Football League. He returned to the Steelers in 2011 and was released again during the last round of cuts before the 2012 season.
