The sports world received some heartbreaking news this morning.

Longtime ESPN anchor Stuart Scott, 49, passed away after a difficult battle with cancer.

Stuart began at ESPN in 1993 and left a profound legacy through the connections he made with athletes, colleagues and fans.

To quote Scott’s own signature line, he was “as cool as the other side of the pillow.”

Last summer at the ESPY Awards, following another round of cancer surgery, Scott accepted the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance.

“When you die, it does not mean that you lose to cancer,” he said in his speech. “You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live.”

In wake of his untimely passing, Redskins players took to social media to express their shock, grief and gratitude for Scott, sharing their condolences and memories.
