Walter, known to many at the Verizon Center as “Pump It Up Man,” proudly wears his Redskins jersey to every Washington Wizards game.
He’s a fan of both teams, but he’s also superstitious.
In a recent interview with TruthAboutIt.net, Walter explained the Redskins gear he wears is both devotional and necessary.
When he started wearing burgundy and gold, good things happened.
Walter, from Bowie, Md., fluctuates between wearing Clinton Portis and Robert Griffin III jerseys and then goes for his signature “Pump It Up” arm gesture, raising the roof during timeouts and rallying fans and players on the big screen.
In the interview, Walter admits he first started going to Redskins games in 1963, when the team played at Griffith Stadium, and became a Wizards fan several years later after attending Morgan State University.
Maybe the best, or most controversial, tidbit from Walter came at the end, when asked about why his wife doesn’t join him for games. “She’s a Dallas Cowboys fan,” he said. “I don’t want her to be around me.”
