If you happened to catch the latest episode of Bravo’s “Top Chef” on Wednesday, you might have noticed George Pagonis.
In one “Quickfire Challenge” segment, Pagonis, a Washington, D.C., area chef, professed his fandom for the Washington Redskins.
The Redskins Blog then contacted him.
One of George’s fine restaurants, Kapnos, is where you’ll locate him cooking throughout the week.
On Sundays, however, he usually takes time off to watch the Redskins.
Maybe the more recent herculean feat was forcing his fiancée to switch her allegiance from the New York Giants. The couple met while he was working in New York City, but since he opened up his restaurants, they’ve moved down to D.C. and she’s now added some burgundy and gold to gameday wardrobe.
“I don’t care about baseball, basketball, or hockey, but you have to like the Redskins,” Pagonis said he told his fiancée.
Pagonis grew up in northern Virginia and latched onto the team from an early age. He told The Redskins Blog he had to teach his father, who was born in Greece, the rules of football. Now the whole family gets involved.
And because Pagonis is a master cook, when he does get to games at FedExField, he becomes the fan favorite at tailgates. He cooks up hotdogs, hamburgers and ribs but on occasion, when he has leftovers from his restaurant, he’ll fire up some lamb shoulder, too.
Keep up with him on the show and see if he survives the competition in the coming weeks.
